This little boy was abandoned by his parents because they thought he was a witch.

This practice is becoming more and more commonplace in Nigeria, unfortunately.

He was starving and ridden with disease after wondering the streets along for eight months.

It's amazing he survived at all.

He was rescued by Danish aid worker Anja Loven, who's seen this kind of thing before.

The little boy didn't even have a thread of clothing.

“Thousands of children are being accused of being witches and we’ve both seen torture of children, dead children and frightened children.” Said Loven.

The little boy, named 'Hope' by rescue workers, gets his first bath for a long time.

Hope is recovering slowly now, he's still got a way to go, but thanks to Anja Loven he's been receiving medical care since January 31st.

When Hope was first brought in he could barely move he was so hungry and exhausted. Now he can sit up, move around, and is becoming more powerful every day.

He might not be totally better, he may have been abandoned by his family and accused of being a witch, Hope may have seen some things that no adult let alone a child should ever see.

But he still smiles.

And it's pretty darn beautiful when he does.
