1

Amy Schumer

In the number one spot is this year's breakout star, Amy Schumer.

She took our screens by storm with her hilarious, self-deprecating sketch show Inside Amy Schumer, rocked her hosting gig at the MTV Movie awards and has been nominated for a Golden Globe in her first film lead as party-girl Amy in Trainwreck. It's safe to say that 2015 has been Amy's year!

Watch Trainwreck now on Virgin Movies. Cert 15. Then add Inside Amy Schumer to your WishList®, so you don't miss it when it returns to Comedy Central/HD (CH 132/181) this January.

2

Nadiya Hussain

With her exquisite bakes and exceptional facial expressions, Nadiya was rightfully crowned this year’s Great British Bake Off champ. Her snake bread basket will go down in the history (recipe) books.

Watch The Great British Bake Off Christmas Masterclass, 17 December, 9pm, BBC Two/HD (CH 102/162). Also available after broadcast in BBC iPlayer in Catch Up TV.

3

David Tennant

Tennant reminded us just how versatile he is this year. He started off as beaten-down detective Alec Hardy in the twisting Broadchurch, before unleashing his evil side as charming sociopath Kilgrave in Netflix’s Marvel's Jessica Jones.

Watch the entire first series of Jessica Jones on Netflix and then go travel back in time with Doctor Who series 1-7 on Netflix.

4

Bruce Campbell

How we've missed that chin! Bruce Campbell and his chainsaw made a welcome return to screens this year in Ash Vs Evil Dead, the TV spin-off of cult 80s film franchise The Evil Dead – and you can watch the series exclusively on Virgin Media!

Watch Ash Vs Evil Dead in TV On Demand > Collections > Ash Vs Evil Dead. Then revisit the original Evil Dead trilogy plus the 2013 remake on Virgin Movies now.

5

Hayley Atwell

She’s the most famous face in a navy jacket and red hat since Paddington Bear. This year, the Marvel Cinematic Universe was given a good shake when the first of its two leading ladies hit FOX. Atwell’s superb Captain America spin-off saw Agent Peggy Carter finally take centre stage.

Watch Atwell now as Agent Carter in Avengers: Age Of Ultron, on Virgin Movies. Cert 12. Then add Marvel’s Agent Carter to your WishList®, so you catch the new series when it starts on 24 January on FOX/HD (CH 157/199).

6

Aidan Turner

It was hard to open your curtains this year without seeing a picture of Turner’s washboard abs. But there’s more to the Irish Poldark star than his physique. Set after the American Revolutionary War, the series has sparked something of a period drama revolution.

Watch Turner this Boxing Day in Agatha Christie drama And Then There Were None on BBC One/HD (CH 101/108). Then add Poldark to your WishList®, so you don't miss the second series when it returns to next year.

7

Toby Jones

Jones kicked off the year on a high in the BAFTA-winning Detectorists, and followed with spectacular performances in US crime hit Wayward Pines and BBC drama Capital. He even popped up in Marvel’s Agent Carter – talk about a busy year!

With Dad’s Army and Alice Through The Looking Glass hitting cinemas next year, he shows no signs of slowing down.

Catch the whole of Capital on BBC iPlayer in Catch Up TV. Then sit down to the series 1 Box Set of Wayward Pines in TV On Demand > Collections > The US Of Awesome.

8

Lady Gaga

Who knew that behind her poker face, Lady Gaga was such a masterful thesp? She's stolen every scene as glampire The Countess in American Horror Story: Hotel and picked up a Golden Globe nomination along the way. Applause all round.

Watch American Horror Story: Hotel, Tuesdays, 10pm, FOX/HD (CH 157/199). Also available for thirty days on FOX in TV On Demand.

9

Lennie James

We all continued to be hooked on apocalyptic drama The Walking Dead this year, largely because of hero/all-round-great-guy Morgan. You’re in safe hands with this one.

While you wait for his return in The Walking Dead this February on FOX/HD (CH 167/199), check out another powerhouse performance from James in Line Of Duty on Netflix now.

10

Suranne Jones

Doctor Foster was this year’s surprise smash hit. Jones already has a legion of fans thanks to Scott & Bailey, but her turn as a woman scorned allowed her to deliver a career-defining role. Basically, don't mess with her.

Doctor Foster returns next year. Add Jones and the show to your WishList® so you don't miss a single thrilling minute.

11

David Attenborough

The nation’s grandfather is on the cusp of turning 90, but that’s not stopped him making some of the finest nature documentaries on TV. Even when faced with the most dangerous creatures on the planet, his dulcet tones keep us feeling safe.

Catch up with The Hunt on BBC iPlayer in TV On Demand, before watching Great Barrier Reef With David Attenborough from 30 December, 9pm, BBC One/HD (CH 101/108).

Oh and did we mention you can explore more of the natural world with some of Attenborough's greatest hits including Frozen Planet and Life on Netflix now?

12

Miss Piggy

We’ve seen a more sensitive side to Miss Piggy this year. She’s split from Kermit, and welcomed us into her daily life in the Muppets behind-the-scenes series. We’re still holding a candle for our favourite cross-species couple.

Watch The Muppets on Mondays, 8pm, Sky1/HD (CH 110/109). Also available after broadcast in Sky On Demand.

13

Mathew Baynton

It's been a big year for Baynton. Yonderland, the madcap puppet comedy that he co-created, co-wrote and co-starred in entertained everyone who watched. Then he went all Lindsay Lohan on us – in a good way – playing a set of estranged twins in doomsday dramedy You, Me And The Apocalypse. Two for the price of one. In a cast packed with stars, he stole the show.

Missed the final episode of You, Me And The Apocalypse? Find it TV On Demand > By Channel > Sky1 now. Then sit down to series 1 of The Wrong Mans on Netflix.

14

Chris Evans

Evans is 2015’s comeback king. He's well and truly back on form with the return of TFI Friday to Channel 4 and the announcement of his Top Gear gig.

Watch TFI Friday on Fridays, 8pm, Channel 4/HD (CH 104/164). Then add Top Gear to your WishList®, so you don't miss the show's return in May.

15

Ben Whishaw

Everything Mr Whishaw has touched this year has turned to gold, as he delivered standout performances in both TV and film.

He plays a young man searching for the truth in the compelling BBC drama London Spy, while also appearing in essentially all of this year’s finest films – Spectre, The Lobster and Suffragette. Is there anything this man can’t do?

Catch up on London Spy on BBC iPlayer in Catch Up TV now.

16

Danny Dyer

As well as having us in stitches on social media, Dyer has continued to have us all round the Queen Vic as tough-cookie-with-a-gooey centre pub landlord Mick Carter in EastEnders. Things are bound to get tasty this Christmas too.

Watch EastEnders, Mondays and Fridays, 8pm, Tuesdays and Thursdays, 7.30pm, BBC One/HD (CH101/108). Also available after broadcast in BBC iPlayer in Catch Up TV.

17

Maggie Smith

Without Smith's pithy one-liners ("what is a weekend?") Downton wouldn’t have had half its vigour. With the final ever episode landing on Christmas Day, we’ll have our tissues at the ready.

Watch Downton Abbey, Christmas Day, 9pm, ITV/HD (CH 103/113). Also available after broadcast in ITV On Demand in Catch Up TV.

18

Krysten Ritter

A star is born! The Marvel Cinematic Universe continued to grow this year, with Krysten Ritter bringing the sass as Jessica Jones in her meatiest role to date, as she battled a fantastic David Tennant.

Find Marvel's Jessica Jones on Netflix.

19

Marti Noxon

If you’ve been enjoying a US drama import of late, chances are it’s one of Noxon’s creations. Girlfriends’ Guide To Divorce, Code Black and UnREAL are all hers. (Buffy, Prison Break, Glee also feature in her back catalogue). Outstanding.

Watch Code Black on Thursdays, 9pm, Watch/HD (CH 124/191). Also available after broadcast on UKTV Play. Then add UnREAL to your WishList® so you don't miss it when it returns to Lifetime/HD (CH 208/209) next year.

20

Fred Sirieix

Fred is the First Dates restaurant Maître d'. But he’s so much more than that. He’s a love guru, a counsellor and a 21st century bard. With wise words such as: “A date can be a life-changing moment, it can change your life forever”, you can’t help but want to stroke his beard.

Watch First Dates on Thursdays, 9pm, Channel 4/HD (CH 104/ 142). Also available after broadcast in All 4 in Catch Up TV.

21

Wagner Moura

Narcos is the Netflix show everyone’s been talking about this year, and not just because of the fantastic array of facial hair. Wagner Moura plays Pablo Escobar in Narcos with so much swagger, he makes Jay Z look like a wobbly baby deer. Oh, and he received a Golden Globe nomination too!

Watch Narcos now on Netflix.

22

Lady Colin Campbell

Anyone who has the presence of mind to bring a pearl necklace to the Australian outback needs to be recognised. Lady Colin Campbell’s a writer, socialite and the improbable darling of this year’s jungle. She will be missed.

Catch the final episode of I’m A Celebrity… Get Me Out Of Here! in ITV On Demand in Catch Up TV until Sunday.

23

Karl Pilkington

The world’s least enthusiastic tourist, Pilkington returned to our screens this year to reluctantly offer more travel tips.

See Pilkington in Ricky Gervais' heart-warming comedy Derek. Find all three series on Netflix now.

24

Charlotte Crosby

Veteran Geordie Shore cast member Charlotte Crosby has had us all in the palm of her hand with her Ross ’n’ Rachel will-they-won’t-they “love” story. Now that Gaz is single again, we’re getting butterflies…

Watch Geordie Shore on Tuesday, 10pm, MTV/HD (CH 134/183).

25

Ryan Murphy

The acclaimed writer said goodbye to Glee this year. But there hasn’t been much time for mourning, as his brand new teen-horror series Scream Queens and American Horror Story: Hotel continue to tear up our screens.

Watch Scream Queens on Mondays, 10pm, E4/HD (CH 144/145). Also available after broadcast in All 4 in Catch Up TV. Then scare yourself all over again with American Horror Story: Hotel on Tuesdays, 10pm, FOX/HD (CH 157/199). Also available for thirty days on FOX In TV On Demand.
