Five Reasons Why Dumbledore Is Actually Toxic

Dumbledore is known as one of the greatest wizards of all time, as well as the only wizard Voldemort ever feared, but that doesn't mean he isn't a toxic person. Many fans aren't impressed with Dumbledore's ethics, so here's a list of five reasons why.

He wanted to work with Grindelwald.

You can say whatever you want about the fact that he didn't actually go through with the plans, but had Ariana not been killed, it's highly likely that he would have gone through with those plans. A unfortunate accident was the only thing that set him on the right path. In the books, we see that he knows now that he isn't suited for power because of this fact, but he literally wanted to enslave Muggles.

2

He's kind of the reason Harry's parents died.

Could James and Lily have survived if the Invisibility Cloak had been in James's posession? It's highly likely since it's one of the Deathly Hallows. Unfortunately for the Potters, due to his old obsession with the Hallows, Dumbledore didn't return their cloak with enough time to possibly save them.

3

He never really lets Harry in on the whole plan.

There are several points throughout the series when Dumbledore tells Harry that he's going to tell him everything, yet he never seems to actually do just that. He even admits to this flaw himself at the end of Book 5, but still manages to not tell Harry "everything" when he just said he would. "Half-Blood Prince" is an entire book of Dumbledore filling Harry in on Voldemort's past but still manages to not let Harry know that there will soon come a time when he must move forward on his own by using a few of his own posessions. Even after his death when Harry meets him in King's Cross, it turns out that Dumbledore still has more to tell Harry. Go figure.

4

He's a master puppeteer.

I'll be the first person to tell you I can't stand Snape, but Dumbledore plays people like they're nothing more than pieces from a wizard chess set—Snape included. Snape ultimately meets his death following the plans laid out for him by Dumbledore. When Dumbledore meets his own end, he hasn't left instructions for anyone on how to proceed, and they're stuck grappling with everything that happens in his wake.

5

His relationship with Harry sucks.

Harry, never having had a father figure in his life, grows to view Dumbledore as such, but Dumbledore doesn't even have the decency to clue Harry in on the whole plan. He never tells Harry that he's going to die, so Harry is blindsided by it and left without any real idea of how to move forward from that point. The best thing Dumbledore does for Harry is to leave him a couple of clues, but they're so vague that it takes over half of Book 7 before they even begin to help.
