First Shave:  Discover How To Know When  You Are Ready To Start

A lot of people ask: When should I start with my first shave?

Well the simple answer is: whenever you are ready.

It's an individual answer and really all depends on you and your body, and when you make the decision that it is time to begin.

But when should you make that decision? Well, let's start at the beginning...

In the Beginning...
Every human, male and female, is born with tiny little white hairs all over their body, known as Vellus hairs.

During puberty, androgens (a type of hormone) cause these hairs to develop into heavier, thicker hair - that is what you call the hair growing in funny places.

This tends to affect males more than females as they have more androgens.

These heavier hairs tend to sprout in a specific order. On the face, this usually begins with vellus hairs on the corners of the upper lip starting to get thicker and darker, slowly forming the whole moustache on the upper lip.

This begins from around age 14 - 16 and it doesn't stop there.

Next is the sideburns and upper cheek area, as well as below the bottom lip (labrum) before slowly spreading across the corners of the chin and finally enveloping the entire beard area.

This is often present around ages 17 - 18 but it may not appear until quite a lot later - even up to 10 years after puberty.

As with anything, this may not be exact for you and don't be worried if it happens when you are younger or older than the average age.

Everyone is different. Children as young as 11 years old have been reported as having facial hair so thick that they have a daily regimen.

Also, the appearance of the hair is different for everyone and the whole process varies a lot even between different ethnic groups.

So don't worry too much!

Rite of Passage
It is a rite of passage for every teenage boy going through puberty into manhood. As explained above, your first shave will probably need to be at a different time to others around you.

As you grow older and the hair on your face starts to get thicker and darker, you might just decide that you are going to start doing things properly from your first shave.

Good idea!

It is recommended that you cover your whole facial hair area, even if you only have a few little bits growing and think you don't need to.

Doing this on your first shave will give consistency as well as paving the way for excellent shaving habits in the future.

Learning how can be a good father-son bonding experience, as the father can pass on his knowledge to his son.

After that, you can read Best Rotary Shaver website and find any corrections to make and you could even re-educate your father if necessary!

It is also good because your facial hair pattern will most likely be the same as your father's, so he would be the best resource on your face.

You may decide that you want to keep the facial hair and style it. This is something teenagers love to do, and it may be referred to as bum fluff - as it is not fully developed.

But don't let that stop you!

One final word, once you start you generally won't stop, so make sure that you are ready to continue doing it.
