He is rumoured to have sold his soul to the Devil
Rumour has it that Johnson was able to produce such fantastic music by "selling his soul to the devil" and that his song "Crossroad" is about this. Apparently he was a failed musician for several years only to return to the music scene in 1936 with supreme talent. The legends goes that he sold his soul at the Memphis crossroads of Hwy 322/N. State St. and Desoto Ave.
"Diddley Bows" heavily influenced the blues sound
Diddley bows, three string, often homemade instruments are rarely found outside of the deep South and yet heavily influenced the blues sound. Traditionally one of the first instruments Southern children had and learned, they are believed to have originated from West Africa.
