EY Foundation - Smart Futures

EY Foundation raises funds to help young people find alternative routes into work and education. Their purpose is to inspire and engage young people to reduce barriers to work and help them to realise their career ambitions, regardless of background or circumstances. One of the ways the EY Foundation does this is through their Smart Futures programme.

Three reasons to apply for Smart Futures

Smart Futures is a great paid work experience. It lasts for ten months and is open to 5th year students in Scotland, taking place in either Glasgow or Edinburgh. Smart Futures provides opportunities to learn more about professional services and work with other industries like healthcare, the arts or financial services. They are looking for applications from young people who are:

  • Currently in Fifth Year;
  • Eligible for free school meals at some point in the past six years;
  • Attending a state school;
  • Studying any combination of A-level/International Baccalaureate/BTEC Level 3s/National/Highers;
  • Ambitious and motivated to join the world of work;
  • Looking for a great paid work experience this summer that will help secure a job after school, or a place at university.

The programme provides you with a chance to develop your employability skills! These are the skills that are useful to have when applying for, keeping and being successful in a job. This can include skills like communication, team work, problem solving and time management.

Smart Futures gives you access to quality work experience! Having some relevant work experience behind you is a great way to stand out to potential employers in the future. Work experience is a great chance to become ready for work while building skills and gaining experience which cannot be taught in a classroom.
