1

Chapstick

Created by Pfizer, Chapstick has become the more preferred name over lip balm, but is actually the name of one brand offered.

2

Thermos

Let's all enjoy lunch in a vacuum flask! I agree, thermos sounds much better.
Thermos lost it's trademark in 1963 and is now a generic term.

3

Kleenex

Don't lie, we're all guilty of this one. It's like we forgot the word tissues even existed! Kleenex is just one brand!

4

Velcro

What else are we supposed to call this? Hook and loop fasteners? Velcro sounds better - even if it is just a brand name!

5

Frisbee

The original Frisbee is owned by Wham-O, any other flying disks you may have come across are just that--flying disks--not Frisbees.

6

Band-Aid

Band-Aid, bandage, close enough.

7

JumboTron

Sony trademarked the JumboTron and huge sports arenas everywhere (or almost everywhere) have them as an added bonus. If they aren't made by Sony, they're just...large screen TVs?

8

Xerox

Ever hear your teacher or someone you work with say that they need to Xerox something? Chances are, you have (or have even said it yourself). I suppose it's a fancier way of saying you need to copy something.

9

Popsicle

This popular frozen treat was invented (on accident) by Frank Epperson. It's hard to believe that the popsicle you ate may not have actually been a popsicle at all (if it was, congrats). But it's not as fun to call it a 'frozen ice treat on a stick', is it?

10

Wite-out

Believe it or not, Wite-Out belongs to BIC and nobody but BIC, even if it feels natural to call any correction fluid Wite-Out.
