We see many applications of precision metal fabrication in our lives. Some of them we see very prominently and some we know they are there but don’t see. Ready-made window frames are one kind of precision fabrication of metal. We see these every day.

Another example of precision fabrication of metal are the various components of electronic appliances. We don’t see them often, but they are some of the most perfectly fabricated metal parts.

Methods Of Metal Fabrication

There are many methods of sheet metal fabrication depending on the metal and the kind of cutting and forming that is needed.

There are the conventional methods of metal fabrication which are also done by us at MuShield. We use many methods like Precision Press Brake Forming, CNC Punching, Metal Cylinder Rolling, Shearing etc. We regularly fabricate many metals like Steel, Stainless Steel, Aluminium, Brass, Titanium etc.

Apart from the above method we are capable of precision fabrication using laser cutting and forming machines. Laser beams are very useful in precision fabrication because they can cut in three dimensions. A laser beam is used to cut and high-pressure Nitrogen is used to remove the molten metal.

Hydroforming is another method of metal fabrication. Metal is pressed into a pre-cut die by using high pressure. This makes the metal wrap around the contours of the die. The main advantage of this method is that there no welded edges.

Alloys For Magnetic Shielding

Permalloy is an alloy of Iron and Nickel used for magnetic shielding. This alloy has got a very high permeability for magnetic waves. This was used extensively for magnetic shielding. Permalloy is mainly used in lamination in transformers and magnetic recording heads. One disadvantage of this alloy is that it is not easily made into complex shapes that are required for magnetic shielding.

MuMetal is the ideal alternative for Permalloy when it comes to Magnetic Shielding. MuMetal has a very high permeability required for Magnetic Shielding of high-precision electronic instruments. There are other alloys with medium permeability which are also used for the shielding purpose.

Seamless Mumetal Tubes

A sphere is an ideal shape for Magnetic Shielding. However, spheres are not always stable. The next best alternative is a cylinder. Cylinders can be made in many sizes with regard to diameter and length.

It is in this application that seamless tubing comes into play. A seamless tube offers better magnetic shielding properties than a rolled and welded tube. Extrusion of seamless tubes can be done in many sizes including very small sizes wherever required.
