STAR Has An Awesome Soundtrack!

Republic Records and Twentieth Century Fox Television release STAR: The Premiere EP at all digital retailers. In advance of its network debut, the four-song EP features original music from the pilot episode. STAR follows three talented singers – running from their pasts and desperate for a new start – with ambitions of stardom, as they navigate the cut-throat music business on their road to success. "I Can Be" is a really fun song! It was sung by the girls at the football player's house. Here the video has some lyrics, but it's not the full song.

”One Day” features Queen Latifah As Carlotta. This Spotlight is on her character, but in a part it shows her singing this song and it is quite powerful! She sings it at church and while she sings it, she is reunited with the girls she lost to the system when her friend, their mother died.

”Break Yo Chest” is the song that the girls sing at the Club to get noticed, but no managers were there. It was a pretty good song, but the best part is seeing them perform it!

"I Bring Me" was sung at the strip club in hopes of landing a manager. A bit of the song “I Bring Me” can be heard in their latest promo for the TV show STAR“I Bring Me,” one of the standout tracks from the EP, showcases the R&B swagger, pop prowess, and musical energy at the heart of this powerful and inspiring drama. A companion music video for “I Bring Me” will be released on December 14th coinciding with the premiere.

From Episode 1x02 "The Devil You Know" - The song "It's Alright" is sung by Jude DeMorest, Ryan Destiny & Brittany O’Grady! Star and Alexandra sing in Cotton's bedroom, while Simone sings at church. Queen Latifah and Tyrese are at the church. Star and Alexandra collapse in fits of laughter while Simone collapses from a drug overdose.

From Episode 1x03 "The Next Of Kin" - The Song: "Come On Back To Me" is sung by their dead mother (Caroline Vreeland) as an angel and by Star, both singing to Simone. Their Angel Mom is asking Simone to come to the light and give up her hardships on earth, while her sister Star is begging her not to die and leave her. It is such a beautiful song!

From Episode 1x03 "The Next Of Kin" - The Song: "Man" is sung by Jude DeMorest, Ryan Destiny & Brittany O’Grady! Simone is in a mental ward as she tried to kill herself, so they decided to record the song there and the other mental patients take part in the fantasy sequence!

From Episode 1x04 "Code Of Silence" - Song: "Heartbreak", a Gladys Knight cover song sung by the girls at the hair show. You can also hear Gladys Knight's vocals that were from the original recording intermixed with the girls while they sang on stage. It is so neat to see Gladys on the show! She's so lovely! They sing this song twice. Once before the foster father is killed and afterwards. As Carlotta says, "it's called an alibi".

From Episode 1x05 "New Voices", the Song "Unlove You" was written by Carlotta and sung by their mother Mary. Alexandra re-arranged the song for them to sing in the competition and they make it to the Top 20!

Carlotta (Queen Latifah) is taking over for leader of the Choir at church. Pastor Harris (Tyrese Gibson) is on the right. They have a budding relationship that is really sweet!

Episode 1x06 "Infamous" - "Song "It's Only You" is sung by the girls at a charity event. Alex was supposed to be the lead, but Star takes over the song in the end.

One of the best parts about Lee Daniels' STAR is the music! Some of the musical performances in the show are dream sequences. You can always tell if it's a fantasy sequence when the screen splits apart like ripping paper or lighting. Here is the full performance of "Gooder" ft. Queen Latifah and Miss Lawrence. I didn't know Miss Lawrence had such a great voice! I knew she had style from the episode where they were dancing to 'The Groove Is In The Heart' from an earlier episode. Queen Latifah in the show mainly sings gospel in the church. In the 90s her character used to be in a girl group called 'Mixed Harmony'. 'Gooder Than A Mother' is the full title and you can find it on Spotify. This is a fun song and neat to see the Queen rap again!
