Photography as a career is too vast than one might think. You might feel the passion for photography but it is important that you know about areas of specialization in photography jobs. This will be a great help in trying to shape your career in the right path.
Moreover, because a lot of photographers work freelance, their income can be uncertain, it would vary from person to person, time to time, location to location and specialization to specialization.

Fashion photography jobs

If you are a popular fashion photographer, you are more of a rock star in the world of photography. Being a fashion photographer usually means shooting one catalog to another, and sitting on the side of a runway and clicking pictures.

This specialization of photography largely bases on your contacts and network, along with your qualifications and skills for the job. Your location is a big factor here, as a fashion photographer is more likely to do well in New York than a small city.

Some other aspects of fashion photography include opportunities to travel and exercise your creative side and try to survive in a cutthroat, high-pressure industry.

Wildlife photography jobs

With cheaper travel options and equipment costs, wildlife photography is more accessible career option along with being technically challenging and rewarding. However, usually, there is not always enough work available to make it your full-time job.

To work as a wildlife photography you need a formal qualification for when in the field, there is extreme job satisfaction, and you are obviously putting yourself in life-threatening danger and for possible low pay.

Product Photography

Many businesses around the world prefer going for product photography instead of using stock photographs. Ultimately it is product photographer’s job to make sure whatever the business is trying to sell looks good enough to appeal to the potential customers.

Often product photographers come from some other area of photography whether from the professional experience of photography school and work their way into the specialization. Luckily, as long as people are selling stuff, they are likely to need the services of a product photographer.

However, it doesn’t rank very high from a creative point of view.

Fine Art Photography Jobs

Fine arts photography is one of the most spurious and a hard-to-define specialization of photography. However, it is also one of the most creative, as well as difficult ways for one to make money in photography.

A college degree won’t be of much help, getting success in the creative arts often comes down to a lucky break. However, professional education may be the right start for the career in fine arts, it expands your social and professional network and right connections can add some extra gravitas to your portfolio. You will obviously also need amazing technical skills to be able to bring your artistic vision into reality.

There is a growing demand for fine art photography and it would feel exceptionally great to sale your first photo or open your first gallery space. It can be very hard to build a successful career and earn a sellable reputation in the industry, especially if your work is not commercial in nature.
