Body Wash Vs. Shower Gel: What Is What

It’s an undebatable fact that showering is an essential part of one’s day, more so if it’s during the hot summer months when you sweat like a tap. But have you ever put some thought into the kinds of products you use to cleanse your body? Why, you wonder? Well, to begin with, if you have a sensitive that is prone to allergies, sometimes even the best body wash could do more harm than good for your skin. So we’ve come up with a list of things you should know about body washes and shower gels, so that you can make a more informed choice the next time you go shopping for a product.

Are Shower Gels And Body Washes The Same Thing?

As similar as they may sound, there is some trace of difference in body washes and shower gels. While they are both basically liquid cleansers that make use of mild surfactants (the chemicals responsible for doing the actual ‘cleaning’). So what makes shower gels and body washes so different? Well, the difference lies in their texture. Body gels have a thinner consistency as compared to shower gels, which makes them better for use in the warmer seasons.

On the other hand, body washes have a slightly thicker consistency, which also makes them more moisturising as compared to shower gels, thus making them better suited for colder climates as that is the time your skin needs most care. Shower gels also contain emollients, or skin softeners that help them curb dryness to some extent. However, newer and better formulas are now being developed that would give use emulsified petroleum in the form of shower gel, which would further help in treating excessively dry skin.

Which Is Better?

The straight answer is that there is no particular parameter to determine which of the two is better. Again, it all comes down to your skin and what it’s most comfortable with. While body washes may work for some, shower gels might not work for others. So the first step in determining which is best for your skin involves you developing an understanding of what your skin is actually like.

So get to know your skin and pick the product that works the best for you!
