Meet the incredibly talented Joanie, a two year old yellow labrador retriever with a big heart!

Joanie has been trained since she was a little puppy to help people with disabilities.

So far, Joanie can do all of the following things:

Switch lights on and off.
Open and close doors.
Pick up dropped objects.

Joanie was trained by the nonprofit Canine Companions for Independence, which provides the service canines as companions for children and adults with disabilities.

And Joanie was a natural!

“You would tell her to do something and she would do it right away. It was a game to her. Joanie is just an exemplary assistance dog.”

And in February, after passing her training, Joanie was matched with 11 year old Thomas Hastings, a boy with special needs who uses a wheelchair.

And the Hastings family is thrilled to have Joanie with them!
