Freia David, a friendly face and cornerstone of the McDonald's in Needham, Massachusetts for the last thirty-two years, is now retiring from her beloved fry-cook job.

2

David, 32, has Down syndrome and was first placed at the restaurant by a program partnering with businesses in Needham to create jobs for adults with special needs.

Unfortunately, her mother, Anneliese David, a spry 90-year-old, began noticing signs of early onset dementia in Freia recently, and concerned that she would begin to hurt herself at work, insisted on her retirement.

4

But McDonald's wouldn't let their favorite employee leave without a proper sendoff and threw her a huge retirement party to say goodbye, or more likely, see you later, as David and her mother eat at McDonald's every Saturday, so she can say hello to friends.

Over 100 people turned out to say goodbye to Freia and wish her well. She received plenty of gifts, including a silver necklace with a french fry pendant, a model of the restaurant, photo albums, cards, stuffed animals, and most importantly, free McDonalds for her and her mother for the rest of her life.

How do you feel about Freia's retirement? Talk to us about it in the comments below, and share with your friends to see what they think.
