For those of us who miss getting to watch Oprah on a daily basis and don't have access to her cable network, OWN, there's some great news coming our way! Oprah Winfrey will be contributing several stories to 60 Minutes this year.
Although Oprah has had plenty to keep her busy since leaving her talk show in 2011, including her own cable television network, the Oprah Winfrey Network (OWN), acting in several films, and contributing to the written word through O Magazine and several books, Oprah is excited to return to journalism on 60 Minutes.
I've been a big admirer of 60 Minutes since my days as a young reporter. I'm so excited and proud to join forces with this historic news program, which for me represents the bastion of journalistic storytelling.
While we'll have to wait for the fall for her first story to air, 60 Minutes executive producer Jeff Fager called her "a wonderful person full of energy and ideas" so it sounds like the feelings are mutual. Oprah went on to discuss her excitement further, saying:
At a time when people are so divided, my intention is to bring relevant insight and perspective, to look at what separates us, and help facilitate real conversations between people from different backgrounds.
Oprah's lifelong friend Gayle King, who also works at CBS as co-host of CBS This Morning commented on Oprah's sign on to 60 Minutes, discussing the balance it will bring to Oprah's life, saying:
She has said all the time she doesn't miss the day-to-day of the show, but what she does miss is storytelling and connecting with people, women in particular, and being able to meet and talk to them and interact with them.
So, now, what we'd like to know is...
