The United States has just dropped its largest non-nuclear bomb on the Achin district of the Nangarhar province in Afghanistan for the purpose of destroying ISIS strongholds there. The Massive Ordinance Air Blast Bomb, or MOAB, was designed during the Iraq War, but this is the first time it has ever been deployed on the battlefield. Press Secretary Sean Spicer spoke about its use during a press conference today.
The United States takes the fight against ISIS very seriously and in order to defeat the group we must deny them operational space, which we did... [MOAB] targeted a system of tunnels and cave that ISIS fighters use to move around freely.

Although U.S. military personnel are still assessing the damage, precautions were taken against civilian casualties. According to the person who ordered the strike, General John Nicholson:
This is the right munition to reduce these obstacles and maintain the momentum of our offensive against ISIS-K. Our forces took every precaution to avoid civilian casualties with this strike.
