You probably don't drink anything - maybe you used to drink rather too much & learnt the error of your ways. On the very rare occasion when you do, you might not even finish the glass as you're not that fond of the taste of alcohol or don't like the way it makes you feel.
If there's an event or party where you know people are going to get drunk, you might avoid it as you find people boring once they get past the point of being pleasantly tipsy.
You're happy and healthy and that's the way you intend to stay.
Socially Acceptable
Socially Acceptable
You can take drink or leave it. You enjoy the taste of a nice glass of wine or like to celebrate with a glass of champagne, but you don't drink to alter your mood or to escape from your problems. You know when you've had enough to drink and are also capable of saying no when someone tries to force you into having another.
As long as you maintain your drinking at this level, you're fine and you've got it well in control.
Binge Baby
Binge Baby
Every few months you like to go and get completely blotto. You'll drink quickly until you drop, getting yourself into a few scrapes and having to apologise to friends and family the next day.
You might have even noticed that you have a drink to calm your nerves or have started to look forward to that glass of wine when you get home from work.
It's time to take yourself in hand, even if other people around you are drinking just as much. Try going out and not drinking or limit yourself to a couple, alternating alcohol with a soft drink - test yourself to see if you can easily break the pattern. If so, maintain it - if not, try to get a friend to keep off the drink with you for a few months. You'll really notice how much better you feel - and how much more money you'll have at the end of the month. If you find you can't and are worried about your drinking, see your GP.

You might well binge drink most weekends as well as drink heavily during the week. In your heart, you might know that you drink more than your friends but you deny it if anyone says anything to you.
You probably cringe when you remember some of the things you've done under the influence, vow to never drink again but then find the whole pattern repeating itself.
You're probably first at the pub or bar after work and the last to leave, always looking for someone to come and have a drink with you.
It's time to get some help - go and see your doctor but be honest about your drinking, otherwise you might get diagnosed for something completely different, like depression, and end up on some tablets that certainly won't mix well with alcohol!
Drunk & Disorderly
Drunk & Disorderly
You get drunk regularly, possibly daily, and often drink all by yourself. You'll ring people up at all times of the night, without thinking that you're disturbing them to tell them your woes.
You are always there for last orders at the bar and cannot understand why anyone would leave their drink unfinished. Ah well, you don't mind finishing off someone else's drink, even if you don't know them.
Friends comment about your drinking, even the ones who drink as much as you. In fact, they don't ask you out with quite so often as you tend to be more of an angry drunk these days. Your drinking is probably affecting your work and your relationships too, but it's become more important to you than anything.
If you can accept that your drinking has become a problem and you want to stop, seek out help from a medical professional or the likes of a rehab centre or AA.
Demon Drinker
Demon Drinker
The Demon Drink has got its claws deep into you and you need to get help as soon as you can. You've probably got into trouble with the police or had to have paramedics called out to help you when you've been paralytically drunk.
You drink every day and cannot function without alcohol even to leave the house. You might hide drink in places around your house and plan your day around when you're going to have your next drink. Friends might have deserted you and you might see a lot less of your family. You've probably lost your job because of your drinking too. Your health might be suffering too and, when you look in a mirror, you barely recognise yourself - if you can focus, that is.
This is a dangerous place to be and you might be fed up with feeling like this, but the the thought of not drinking scares you and you don't know where to turn. AA can help you NOW so get in touch with them. It might save your life.
