So, if you are planning to book a live band for your wedding, here are a few  things you should keep in mind.

1. Select the genre

Select the kind of music that you would like to hear at the wedding. But, if your choice is hard rock or Metallica, then it is best to keep them at bay. For weddings, you should choose entertaining and romantic music, which would enhance the mood of celebration and catalyses enjoyment.

2. The suitability of venue

Provide appropriate environment for the musicians to perform properly. There should be enough space for them to set up their instruments and amplifiers. Along with this, keep in mind that their equipment must not be exposed to weather elements like sun, mist, fog, etc. Also, make sure that your venue has enough space to accommodate the number of musicians you are planning to hire.

3. Right acoustics

Certain musicians prefer hardwood floors and less decorated walls, so that the sound can echo and amplify itself naturally. Heavily decorated and carpeted floors tend to absorb the sound, and thus, the need for better amplifiers arises.

4. Book them well in advance

Last moment hustle-bustle may result in miscommunication of time, venue or other important details. Moreover, your favourite band may not be available on that day. So, it is always good to select and book a band at least 2 months in advance.

5. Determine your budget

Sangeet can be an expensive affair. Just like you are budgeting your wedding, you need to budget your sangeet as well. You can either do the wedding and sangeet budget together or separately.

6. Ask the band about their set up time 

This can vary from venue to venue depending on access etc. Usually it takes 1 hour 15 minutes from going access to the stage area to be ready to play. They always change into stage wear as setting up can be a sweaty affair and we want to look our best. Often the area set up is where the top table has been situated for the wedding breakfast so it has to be clear for us to set up. Quite a lot of weddings run a tad late! This can be down to a number of factors throughout the day. It’s not uncommon for the band to wait in the foyer of a hotel for an hour after arriving. This obviously eats into performance time which is unfortunate but beyond the bands control. 

7. Ask about the extra facilities

Few wedding bands collaborate with dancers for extra entertainment. Not only that, they use visual effects for backdrop and also engage the audience too. So, a power packed performance for the big day. 

Organising a Sangeet ceremony is synonymous with a good show of music and dance. However, putting it together along with the managing of the guests and other aspects of the evening is a difficult task indeed. Everyone wants to ensure that the wedding day remains on track, and they have a break, even when they want to party the night away, they  need to remain fresh and look good for the big day.
