1

The Terminator

One of the main antagonists from the 3rd season is a soviet assassin named Grigori who looks very much like Arnold Schwarzenegger's terminator, and like the T-1000 robot from Terminator 2.

2

Day Of The Dead / Dawn Of The Dead

At some point, the kids watch Day Of The Dead in the mall's cinema. The George Romero classic has a link to the torture scene and the underground soviet facility, but it's the predecessor, Dawn Of The Dead, which has a direct link to this season, as it deals with a mall being haunted by zombies.

3

Raiders Of The Lost Ark

The entire trilogy (we're not talking about the 4th installment here, right?) got homages from the Duffer Bros. The opening sequence with the soviet experiment looks like the climax scene from Raiders of the lost ark.

4

Indiana Jones And The Temple Of Doom

The final episode's fight between Hopper and Grigori was inspired by this scene.

5

Indiana Jones And The Las Crusade

Last but not least, the part where Steve and Robin are tied up together is based on this scene.

6

Magnum P.I.

Hopper's whole look and feel (and mustache!) this season was influenced by Tom Selleck's famous detective. The first time we see Hopper this season he's watching an episode of the show.

7

Jaws

The mayor of Hawkins made his first appearance this season, and was portrayed by the amazing Cary Elwes (Space Balls, The Princess Bride). The Duffer Bros said that Jaws was a big influence on them and they looked for a way to pay tribute to the film. The crooked mayor character was the perfect opportunity.

8

The Thing

The classic horror film was mentioned several times throughout the show - There's a poster of it in Jonathan's room, the teacher watches the film with his girlfriend, and the boys argue which version is better: the original version (known as The Thing From Another World) or the 1982 film by John Carpenter. The monsters in this season are a direct nod to Carpenter's version.

9

The NeverEnding Story

One of the sweetest moments from this season was Justin and Suzie's duet of the theme song from the classic fantasy film. Take a moment to enjoy this delightful rendition.

10

Close Encounters Of The Third Kind

In the scene where Justin is being tricked by his friends we see toys come to life just like in Steven Spielberg's classic.

11

Fast Times At Ridgemont High

There are many homages to the 80's classic, the most direct are Justin's description of his girlfriend, which he claims is hotter than Phoebe Cates (one of the stars from Ridgemont High), and the pool scene in which Billy walks to the sound of The Cars' Moving In Stereo (which was used in Phoebe Cates' famous pool scene).
