In 1922 an 8-day riot engulfed New York City over the right to wear Straw Hats in the fall. The Straw Hat Riot of 1922 led to many arrests and injuries.

In 1971, in an effort to create good relations between countries, Brazil and Argentina "traded" over 1000 citizens for a period of 2 years. Argentinian citizens lived in Brazil, and Brazilian citizens went to live in Argentina.

The "Dancing Plague of 1518" occurred in France and involved as many as 400 people compulsively dancing in the street with no rest, food, or water for a period of one month. Some victims died of exhaustion or heart attack during the plague.
