Being a knowledgeable person in the modern era means being able to determine fact from fiction. See if you can determine if these world events actually happened or if they were made up.

In 1922 an 8-day riot engulfed New York City over the right to wear Straw Hats in the fall. The Straw Hat Riot of 1922 led to many arrests and injuries.

In 1971, in an effort to create good relations between countries, Brazil and Argentina "traded" over 1000 citizens for a period of 2 years. Argentinian citizens lived in Brazil, and Brazilian citizens went to live in Argentina.

The "Dancing Plague of 1518" occurred in France and involved as many as 400 people compulsively dancing in the street with no rest, food, or water for a period of one month. Some victims died of exhaustion or heart attack during the plague.

During Prohibition in the United States, beer was still sold freely as it was not considered to have a high enough alcohol content to be disruptive to society.

During WWII, General George Patton led a controversial unit named "First United States Army Group". The unit was fictitious and involved inflatable tanks meant to mislead the German Army as to the Allied Forces positions.

During the Vietnam War, an entire American unit deserted their post together. Nicknamed the "AWOL Squad", the unit fled to parts of South East Asia for decades until returning home long after the war had ended.

In 1928, the entire American Presidential Election had to be re-done after it was discovered that voting boxes had been broken into and numerous write-in candidates, such as baseball player Babe Ruth, were given large numbers of votes.

At the infamous Salem Witch Trials in the early 1690s, 19 people were hanged. Contrary to popular belief, nobody was burned at the stake during the trials.

In 2017, 170 people died due to an outbreak of the Black Plague in Madagascar.

The Civil War started and ended at the same guy's house. The first battle of the war took place on Wilmer McLean's farm, the same place General Lee would make his surrender.
