Encourage your child to practise getting in and out of their school uniform without your help.

Make it easy for them - look out for zips, elasticated waistbands and shoes with Velcro straps.

Keep on top of school paperwork - there will be lots of letters and forms coming home from school.

Check their book bag every day so you don't miss important dates or information.

Label anything that's not permenantly attached to your child!

Don't worry if your child can't read their name yet, use labels with a picture and their name.

Start school together - get involved in your child's school life right from the start.

Go along to events or volunteer to help and you'll soon get to know other parents.
