WASHINGTON - White House lawyer Ty Cobb is stepping down from his position as counsel for President Trump. Cobb has been floating the idea of retirement for some time with those in the White House.

Speaking to CNN, Mr. Cobb stated that "I've done what I come to do in terms of managing the White House response to the special counsel request. I'm extremely grateful to the President and Chief Kelly for the opportunity to serve my country."

Emmet Flood will be stepping in to replace Mr. Cobb. Flood is most well-known for being on the team that represented Bill Clinton during his impeachment proceedings.

Sources close to the matter suggested that Mr. Cobb had been butting heads with President Trump in recent weeks with regards to the special counsel's ongoing investigation.

President Trump has become more combative as of late with regards to Robert Muller's probe, even going as far as to suggest he would step in at some point in the future.

The addition of Mr. Flood seems to help Trumps's team take a more adversarial posture against the ongoing investigation that can match the tone of Trump's tweets.
