Who will win the World Cup (if it were based on poker)?

Who would be the World Cup Winner if the games would be played by poker players in No-limit Hold'em instead of football?

In our fun simulation we used the Hendon Mob country rankings for predicting group stage results. And for the knockout stage we used a highly advanced mathematical algorithm created at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology. OK, that's a lie - we used our knowledge about the poker industry. Anyway, enjoy!

Group A

In Group A we have two favourites: Russia and Uruguay. Egypt and Saudi Arabia are huge underdogs, mostly because they at the moment aren't very 'poker friendly' countries. Advancing from group A: Russia 1st, Uruguay 2nd.

Group B

In Group B we have a similar situation as in Group A. There are two countries which don't approve of gambling (Morocco and Iran). So therefore, advancing from Group B: Spain 1st, Portugal 2nd.

Group C

Group C is the poker Group of Death - France is in 5th place, Australia 7th and Denmark 16th respectively in the Hendon Mob rankings. Advancing from Group C: France 1st, Australia 2nd.

Group D

In the next round we will see Argentina and Croatia. Maria Lampropulos will make a good job as the Argentina team captain. Advancing from Group D: Argentina 1st, Croatia 2nd.

Group E

Poker in Brazil is growing, this South American country is on 12th place in the Hendon Mob rankings. Switzerland also has more money won than Costa Rica and Serbia. Advancing from Group E: Brazil 1st, Switzerland 2nd.

Group F

Advancement for two European countries in the group. #teamgermany will crush their group opponents and finish with 9 points. Advancing from Group F: Germany 1st, Sweden 2nd.

Group G

Again - it's Europe all the way and the two countries that don't pay tax on poker winnings. Advancing from Group G: England 1st, Belgium 2nd.

Group H

Poland will easily dominate this group which also includes Japan, Senegal and Columbia. Advancing from Group H: Poland 1st, Japan 2nd.

The Final 16

In this round the most interesting match will be between Brazil full of young guns, and Sweden with the Ibrahimovic of poker - Isildur1. Unfortunately for the 'Vikings' one genius is not enough to beat a hard working Brazilian team.

Quarter-finals

Now things are starting to look interesting. Russians playing on home tuff will destroy France. In Brazil vs England Stephen Chidwick will play a crucial role, with Sam Trickett and Chris Moorman's help, the "Lions" will not have a problem beating Brazil lead by Andre Akkari.

In the third game Australia will beat Spain - but that would be very tough match with the great Adrian Mateos putting in a man of the match performance. Last but not least - Germany-Poland. Trio Dzmitry Urbanovich, Dominik Panka and Sebastian Malec will not be enough against #teamgermany. Fedor Holz, Steffen Sontheimer, Christoph Vogelsang will have very strong backup from Rainer Kempe, Dominik Nitsche, Ole Schemion, Tobias Reinkemeir, Philipp Gruissem, Jan Eric Schwippert and the rest of the team.

Semi-finals

Russia vs England. Playing in Motherland will not be enough - the British Lions will win. Australia had an easy way to the semifinals, but that's the most which they will achieve. They will be beaten by a huge score (maybe even 7:1) by Germany.

Third-place Game & World Cup Final

In the third place game Russia will win without any doubts against the Aussies and in the final we will see 'The Classic' - England vs Germany. English players will try their best, but in the end the Cup will go to unbeatable High Roller Germans! Which is probably how it will end in real life too.
