Bean Bag

Bean Bag

You are a Bean Bag!
Whether shaking things up or taking it down a notch, adaptability is your homegirl. You're young at heart and like to live in the moment! You're easygoing, but watch out! You could easily become lazy and unambitious. You tend to be both content and noncommittal. You are a spontaneous spirit, though! So, be flexible, go with the flow, and just enjoy the here and now!
Successor to the sea urchin chair, the bean bag chair broke onto the furniture scene in the late 60s and early 70s. It was developed by Italian designers to suit the new relaxed and informal atmosphere of the younger generation. Originally made of quality leather and styrofoam pellets this comfy creature comfort now boasts a veritable smorgasbord of varieties.

Floor Lamp

Floor Lamp

You are a Floor Lamp!
Not necessarily the brightest bulb in the bunch, your luminous personality more than makes up for it. Your turn ons are well grounded and upright partners, while your turn offs include indecisive and shady behavior. You have a straight forward disposition and an eclectic sense of style. Just be sure to let others shine around you as your own radiance tends to draw the spotlight! Stay ebullient!
Whether a club, torchiere, pharmacy, or tower, the floor lamp has evolved to suit a wealth of practical needs as well as stylistic sensibilities. Developing from candelabras the floor lamp made its debut in the 1600s. Today some of the most popular and recognizable are tripods and the Arco.

Rocking Chair

Rocking Chair

You are a Rocking Chair!
You place a high value on family traditions. You're rational and put great stock in a person's word. You are not easily swayed from your position on matters of great import, neither are you quick to dismiss alternate perspectives that may inform and improve your understanding. You can be stubborn and set in your ways, but if every now and again you take a gallop through the garden of earthly variety those old bones may all the more appreciate what it is to revel in the bliss of a well trod contemplative rock.
And, if you give any credence to film wisdom, you may find there's quite a variety of rocks for a rocking chair. In the 1945 Stanwyck/Morgan classic 'Christmas in Connecticut', featuring the inimitable S.Z. Sakall, romantic lead Jefferson Jones (Dennis Morgan) espouses there are at least three different kinds of rocks:

"-Suppose you're tired and worried about a problem. Well, then you rock like this. Like you're on a ship, away from everything...
...rolling soft and smooth over the open sea. Well, then you get to thinking slow and calm. Get it? That's the ocean rock.
- I never thought of that before.
- There's the horseback rock. When you can't sit still, you gotta be doing something...
...and you rock like this, very fast. Then the lazy rock. When there's something across the room...
...and you're too lazy to get up and get it...
...well, you just rock over and get it.
Only chair in the world you can cross the room without getting up."

The rocking chair is said to be 'an icon of American culture.' Ben Franklin is generally credited with the invention of this beloved chair; however, he was a mere child in the early 18th century when this elemental creation first appeared in farmers' gardens as regular chairs with rockers added. Definitively a product of North American ingenuity, this particular style of furniture traces its roots back to rocking cradles and rocking horses from prior centuries.

Tête-à-Tête

Tête-à-Tête

You are a Tête-à-Tête!
Ooo, you are fancy!! And not only that, but, boy, can you keep a secret! Yes, even the juiciest morsel of delicious gossip is locked tight within your impressive vault. You posess a coolness which allows you to maintain your signature style and flair! Not quite garish, your sense of joie de vivre often competes with your sense of intrigue for dominance in your personality. But never fear, your sense of balance is often impeccable and rarely leaves you in a lurch. You prefer intimate friendships with a few loyal individuals and, though reserved, maintain fashionable panache and an exquisite and attentive eye for detail!
French in origin, tête-à-tête literally translates to 'head-to-head." Further nom de plumes are courting bench, kissing bench, gossip's chair, vis-à-vis, indiscret, and confident. The piece pictured dates from the mid 1800s, is attributed to John H. Belter, uses several woods including rosewood and ash, and has been displayed at the Met 5th St. Gallery in New York. Sprouting to popularity in the Victorian age the tête-à-tête lends itself to a rainbow of creative expression and is often a natural focal piece of any room it chances to find itself in. This is especially the case if one happens into a powder room furnished with a devise showcased by SNL's Kevin Nealon and Victoria Jackson in a 1991 sketch labeled 'The Love Toilet'. Also, for those with slightly more refined sensibilities, a charming conservatory wicker piece makes an appearance in one of the final scenes under "the usual palm tree" in the delightful 1999 adaptation of Oscar Wilde's 'An Ideal Husband'.

Footstool

Footstool

You are a Footstool!
You may be taken for granted by many, but are often much appreciated by those closest to you. Your supportive nature draws others in, though you eschew attention. While practical, you are heroically persistent, stalwart, and empathetic. Just don't let others trample you! Every successful wingperson has an equally reliable crew. And remember, at the end of the day your down-to-earth-y-ness is one of your most endearing features.
Whether step stool, tuffet, pouffe, ottoman, hassock, or tree stump, the footstool has been a staple in the furniture realm for near as long as folks have wanted to put their weary dogs to rest. Often a prized piece among antique collectors, the footstool comes in almost any style and shape imaginable.

Glass Top Coffee Table

Glass Top Coffee Table

You are a Glass Top Coffee Table!
You're exceedingly transparent, yet surprisingly dense! You're glassy- I mean classy! While elegant, sophisticated, and an aesthete of the highest order, you also appreciate the value of function within form. A social butterfly and in the know, your wit and charm delight those around you! You're not the star of the party, better still, the grease that keeps it going. Holly Golightly's got nothing on you. You could have arranged the legendary Algonquin Round Table with both Rolodexes tied behind your back.
The coffee table, bane of shins everywhere, is one of the newer staples of house dressing. Quite often a focal point in many living rooms the glass top coffee table features prominently in both modern and contemporary styles. One of the most notable designs is by a gentleman with quite an interesting history, sculptor/designer Isamu Noguchi. Pictured above, you may already be acquainted with the balanced three-piece design which was originally created in the mid-1940s and manufactured by Herman Miller.

Bookcase

Bookcase

You are a Bookcase!
Cheers! Good job! Congratulations! You know what you are- in point of fact you are so self aware it's a wonder you endeavored to take this quiz! Though the bookish type, being cerebral and well read hardly scratch the surface of who you are. Deeper down one can often find a brooding mysteriosity. Not much of an open book, your occasionally peevish nature belies deep wellsprings of passion and vigor. Hardly nebbish, you are given to occasional spontaneous adventure, too. Your inquisitiveness drives you to explore and acquire knowledge from beyond the page allowing you to become worldly through a multitude of avenues. At times couched in smug wit, your black and white views on life may be, in a stroke of saving grace, capped with a poetic stumble into humility. There's always more, Horatio.
The bookcase shares a marked evolution alongside the book itself. Back beyond the basic BILLY of Ikea fame the bookshelf has revolved from general thing-holder, to heavily guarded keeper of prized possessions under lock and key, to commonplace, esthetically pleasing, tangible idea holder belittered with knick-knacky tat. Some of today's most marvel-worthy shelves include those housed in the Abbey Library of St. Gallen, Switzerland; Wiblingen Monastery Library, Germany; Livraria Lello e Irmao, Porto, Portugal; and The Picture Book Museum in Iwaki City, Japan. A quote in Greek at the doorway to the abbey library reads "psyché iatreion", or "healing place of the soul".

Pie Safe

Pie Safe

You are a Pie Safe!
You're cheerful and full of surprises! Capable of weaving such a good story (which may or may not be wholly tied to the truth) when the opportunity arises, others rarely question its accuracy and often find themselves altogether transported. While somewhat secretive, your warmth and homey nature often help others feel familial and at ease around you. You may or may not also smell of pie... yum!
A precursor to electric refrigeration, the pie safe evolved as a utilitarian piece to not only keep food cool, but protect it from critters. It also has the bonus feature of ventilation which helps prevent the growth of mold and preserve freshness. Early pie safes used hole-punched tin, wire mesh, or fabric, but current styles also include glass and solid wood.
