Christian Family Rallies Behind Transgender Daughter Regardless Of Hate and Criticism On Social Media

A Christian family displays an immense love and respect for the transgender community!

The trouble with identity...
At the age of only two, Benjamin Bruesehoff displayed characteristics of gravitating towards typically feminine things.
And as the years went on, his feelings intensified and thus began a deep search for identity. At the same time, Benjamin's parents began to see a decline in his happiness and confidence.
By the time she was seven, all of this hit a crisis point - her anxiety was crippling and her depression was becoming life threatening. We were faced with a seven-year old kid who wanted to die.

After reaching out to doctors and counsellors, Benjamin began his transition and adopted a new name, Rebekah!
Every family is unique in it's own way!
Do you know someone that's transgender? Are you friends with them?

Wanting to help other parents and children facing the same obstacles, Rebekah's mother started a blog to share their experiences!
But not everyone was as accepting of the family's choices 
And when this photograph of Rebekah went viral...
The happy family was met with unkind words...
"It started out with some really wonderful comments and lots of affirmation, but if I keep scrolling, the comment says..."
"At ten, she isn't mature enough to make this decision. This decision was forced on her by her parents. This is a form of abuse, not recognized. Parents forcing their child into a social media spotlight, seeking their 15 minutes of fame."
"This whole transgender issue is a mental illness but because it's 'cool' you have parents forcing their kids into it."
And though it was hard to take in, the family refuses to let the hate undermine all of their hard work!
We haven't had anyone in our community or families say that we are pushing this on to her but we have had that through social media and my blog, that go as far to say that it is child abuse and we should have our children taken away.
Luckily, every medical professional we've seen says otherwise, so we feel confident that we have the best resources we can and we are supporting her the best way that we can.

I want to make a difference in the world by speaking out and spreading hopeful messages.
I want to send the message of "You are not alone and you are safe" to other transgender kids.
