Employee recognition is defined as the acknowledgement and realisation of the hard work and effort that an employee puts in. It can be both formal and informal, but every person should be recognized and appreciated for the good work they do. It encourages and motivates them to do even better and it increases their productivity and is also beneficial for the organization. On the other side, if a person is consistently doing well and putting forth their best effort and they feel they are not being recognized in any manner, they can easily be discouraged.

Awards can be given to employees for recognition. It helps in developing a pleasant work environment and friendly relationships between all people in the organization. Employee recognition forms an important part of the work culture for any organization, for both short term and long term.

There are many awards that can be given to employees to recognize them for their hard work. Many types of awards can be setup monthly, quarterly, or even annually. Certain cash prizes can also be given to the employees along with these awards. Some awards that can be given are:

1)     The employee who has been doing well overall in an organization can be given an ‘Employee of the Month’ award on a monthly basis.

2)     The employee who has performed the best in the duties assigned to them in the month can be given a ‘Performance of the Month’ award.

3)     The ‘Most Consistent Employee’ award can be given to the employee who has been the most consistent over a specified period of time.

4)     An award for the employee who has proposed an idea that has benefitted the organization can be given a ‘Mastermind’ award.

5)     An employee who is a great support to the new employees, and has helped them integrate with the organization’s culture can be given a ‘Helping Hand’ award.
6)     A special set of awards, employee tenure awards or ‘Loyalty’ awards can be kept for the employees who complete a significant tenure in the organization. It can be a good idea to give a cash bonus along with this award.

7)     An‘Attendance’ award can be given to the employees who fulfils the attendance criteria set for the company. Along with this award a small gift can be given to recognize the achievement. This will boost the attendance of the employees.

8)     Awards for employee recognition can be given to the newly hired employee who has played a positive role in the success of the organization.
