Being An Older Sibling is a Serious Job!

A younger sibling should always be able to go to their big brother or sister in any situation. They should support them at all times and always have their back. I have two younger brothers and one younger sister and all three of them know that they can come to me about anything! That's what I am here for.

An older sibling should always motivate their siblings to make good choices in life. They should guide them down the right path so they can grow up and be the best they can be. Both of my little brother look up to me so I try my hardest to be the best role model I can be for them.

Protection is very important. Being the oldest should make you want to always make sure your siblings are okay. Personally, I call my 14 year old brother almost everyday and I always ask my dad how my 11 year old brother is doing since he's 5 hours away. Seeing them hurt would take a bad tole on me; so whenever I'm with them I make sure they are protected.

It is always good to set the right example for younger ones, especially if they are your brothers or sisters. They may copy what you do or look up to you. You wouldn't want your younger siblings to make the wrong turn down a path, so make sure you do what you have to so that they make the right turn.

Every older sibling should genuinely love their brothers and sister. If you don't show love, they won't want to go to you for certain things or won't want to be around you. You have to let them know that you care for them very much.

When a younger sibling does decide to come to you about a situation, you should be understanding and not judge them for the decisions that they make. That may make them not trust you anymore and may lead to them telling personal things to the wrong person. No one wants that to happen.

Younger kids don't know much about responsibility. As the oldest, you should try to help with that at a young age so as they grow up they can be a responsible child. For example, whenever I go home, I make sure my brother does his chores before my mother gets home. Sometimes a nice reminder will make things better.

When a younger brother or sister is in a certain predicament and they don't know what to do, they should be able to rely on you at all times! My brothers both know that if they are in a sticky situation, I am one phone call away. I can give the best advice I can and they would know that I was being as real as possible with them.

You should ALWAYS remain loyal to your siblings! No matter what the situation is, you are still brothers and sisters so you should always have each other's back. You never know when their time will come so make the best of the time you have. Always be loyal.

As an older brother, I try to make every second with my siblings something to remember. Both of my brothers love playing video games so we do that a lot. Also, one of my brothers in a football player so we play football in the yard sometimes and my other brother plays basketball so we go to the court and shoot around when we have a chance. Younger siblings should always know they can go to their big brother or sister when they want to have fun!
