Blackpool Piers - North Wall
Blackpool’s three main piers offer good fishing for a wide range of species.
The North Pier has restricted access and the Central and South Piers are only open to members of local angling clubs, so the best place to go is the North Wall.
According to information from www.britishseafishing.co.uk, this is a high tide venue which can produce plenty of fish species such as whiting, dab, rockling, flounder, dogfish, bass and cod.
Black lugworm appears to be a successful bait here, but peeler crab, mackerel strip, squid and razorfish are also worth using.
There is also a chance of highly-regarded species such as thornback ray and smooth-hound.
Stocks Resevoir, Hodder Valley
Stocks Reservoir at the head of the Hodder Valley, in an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, is the largest fishery in the North West. It has four-and-a-half miles of fishable shoreline and 350 acres of open water and is extremely well stocked with triploid Rainbow, Brown and Blue trouts.
River Ribble
The River Ribble has various spots to catch fish in its middle and lower reaches – with big barbel and chub.
There are numerous day ticket coarse fisheries along the river, with parking. Popular spots include Hurst Green, near Ribchester, Church Deeps, Walton-le-Dale, and near the Tickle Trout in Preston. For more information visit www.fishinginlancashire.co.uk/rivers/river-ribble/
Cleveleys and Fleetwood
Cleveleys and Fleetwood are great places for fishing. Cleveleys beach is the best location for smooth-hound in summer months and possibly small tope. Gynn Wall is a high water venue which produces flounder, dab, whiting, dogfish and cod. In Fleetwood, Rossall Point is a mixed ground beach, where cod and whiting reside in the winter, and summer sees thornback ray, bass, silver eels and various flatfish.
