Duxburys Garden Centre, Whitestake
Duxburys Garden Centre, in Whitestake, near Lostock Hall, topped our online poll.
The centre has an owl and bird sanctuary within its grounds. It also has a cafe and sells a variety of garden tools, furniture, plants and animal care products. It also has an excellent Christmas department during the festive period.
The first garden centre, known as Turbary Woods, was built across the road, in Chain House Lane, by John Kenworthy. Turbary Woods Owl and Birds of Prey Sanctuary was launched by a volunteer group in 2004.
The centre is now run by Frank and Lesley Duxbury, who changed the name as part of the take-over in 2012.
Barton Grange Garden Centre, Brock
The award-winning Barton Grange came second in our online post, just two per cent behind Duxburys.
It has stunning indoor displays and a superb all-weather plant area, as well as a farm shop, cook shop, a restaurant and conference rooms where several events and workshops are held. Barton Grange won Destination Garden Centre of the Year 2017 and last year was named Best Garden Centre in the UK for the fifth time.
Dobbies, Clifton
Dobbies Garden, Centre, in Blackpool Road, Clifton, has more than three floors to explore. There’s a huge plant department stocking a variety of plants, shrubs, flowers and trees. There is also a superb selection of items for the home - from large furniture items to delightful little knick knacks.
After a day of browsing, people can put their feet up in the centre’s restaurant, which also has an outdoor patio.
