A paint job can be both tricky and simple – all depending on the size of the project. Here are few tips professional interior painters in Central PA do when painting a room.

●      Follow the order: Trim, Ceiling, and Walls
This order has to be done because it is easier and faster to secure the trims than the walls. Interior painters in Central PA will advise that there is no need to be neat when painting the trim – just make sure to achieve a smooth coating on the wood/cement. Wait for 24 hours for the paint to dry before taping it off and painting the ceiling and the walls. Do not worry if painting on the trims looked a bit sloppy and messy, it will eventually be covered when painting the walls.

●      Preventing Overlapping Marks
Lap marks are the sheen and color differences that happen when dry and wet layers of the paint overlap. This happens when there are insufficient stirring and incorrect thinning or painting an extremely absorbent surface without proper priming. This could also happen when a painter rolls over the paint that is semi-dry.
To prevent lap marks always keep a wet outline when painting by applying the paint toward the untouched portion and then go back painting the just finished part. This is called a wet-to-dry process rather than the other way around and will create a smooth and consistent look.

●      No unnecessary objects or furniture when painting
Before painting is done, make that the entire room is cleaned before starting. If the object or the furniture is too large to be taken out, move it to the center of the room. Cover it with plastic or any other material like canvas cloths that will keep it safe from the stains.

●      Be careful with drips when painting
If applied really well, masking tapes are great when protecting woodworks. Use a damp cloth to clean off all the grime and dirt along the corners of the trim. Tightly tape off against the wall and ensure that the edges are securely covered. Use a putty knife to push the masking tape against the wall. Once done, using a painter’s tape that is double the size of the trim in width spread it out to protect the trims from drippings. Be careful not to remove the tape when it is only partially dry as doing so may peel off some of the fresh paint. Wait for the paint to be completely dry or remove it when it is still wet.

●      Identify spots and flaws that need extra work
Use a hand-held bulb (about 60 watts) to check for loose paint, blemishes, rough edges or other flaws in the wood surface. The bulb will be able to shine across the surface and determines what needs to be filled with more paint or if it needs to be fixed.
