The 10 funniest footballers on Twitter
The 10 funniest footballers on Twitter

The invention of Twitter has brought us closer to our favourite celebrities, and for us football fans, in touching distance with the players we admire the most.
Sure, it's also a place for angry Arsenal fans to vent their frustrations at Arsene Wenger, but more importantly it's a place for footballers to connect to their fans and show us that they are human after all.
Not only are some of them human, though, some are actually pretty funny too.
In homage to these unsung heroes of the modern game, we've collected the ten wittiest pros (and former pros) for your viewing pleasure.
Take a look through some of their most hilarious posts and then vote on who YOU think is the funniest.
Peter Crouch - @petercrouch
Any man that admits if he wasn't a footballer, he'd be a virgin, has clearly got a fantastic sense of humour.
The gangly, self-deprecating striker has been entertaining fans on Twitter for years with his effacing humour, and even though he's a member of the Premier League 100 club, it's his social media game that's in a league of it's own.

Gary Neville - @GNev2
It's a testament to just how good Gary Neville is as a pundit that he's done what no other Manchester United player has done before him - be liked by Liverpool fans.
The former right-back's banter with Jamie Carragher on Sky Sport's Monday Night Football was a joy to watch, and thankfully for us, it's translated onto Twitter too.
His reaction to Liverpool reaching the Champions League final was particularly amusing:

Alan Shearer - @alanshearer
Alan Shearer may be remembered as the Premier League's all-time leading goalscorer and one of the few players to turn Sir Alex Ferguson down, but he's also carved out a pretty decent post playing career as someone who ENDS online trolls.
That's right, attack Newcastle's former number 9 at your peril; just like how he was in front of goal, he's lethal (and hilarious) at shutting down Twitter's keyboard warriors.
Gary Lineker - @GaryLineker
Ex World Cup golden boot winner and full time crisp salesman Gary Lineker is about as sassy as they come on Twitter.
Loveable Gaz isn't just wickedly sarcastic, he also loves a pop at politicians, much to the enjoyment of his hoardes of followers.
Oh, and he also loves rinsing Piers Morgan to bits - how many more reasons do you need to follow a person?

Michy Batshuayi - @mbatshuayi
Michy Batshuayi struggled to make much of an impact at Chelsea, but now he's at Borussia Dortmund he's flourishing on and off the pitch.
Batshuayi's social media is full of little gems, proving that he's just as adept at scoring goals as he is at causing a titter on Twitter.
From ridiculing EA Sports for his FIFA rating to showing off his love for Spongebob Squarepants, Michy's the man when it comes to light-hearted, online humour.

Benjamin Mendy - @benmendy23
It's hardly surprising that Benjamin Mendy is such a hoot on Twitter given that he's spent nearly all of his first season at Manchester City out injured.
Still, the left-back has quickly established himself as a viral sensation, mostly due to his constant ribbing of team-mate Kyle Walker.

Robert Huth - @robert_huth
Robert Huth describes himself on Twitter as a 'centre-half for @LCFC. A small head for such a strong jaw line' - and it couldn't be more in keeping with the rest of his account.
The big, German defender doesn't tweet as much as he used to, but when he does it's still golden.
The Leicester man also isn't afraid to take the mick out of rival teams, which we don't think you see enough of these days.

James Milner - @JamesMilner
For a while, 'Boring James Milner' (@BoringMilner ) was a gift from the Twitter gods that few of us believed we deserved.
Then the actual, real-life James Milner joined Twitter and proved that he was actually even funnier.
His first tweet even parodied the parody account by including a picture of him ironing.
Who's boring now, ey?

Patrice Evra - @Evra
'I LOVE THIS GAME!'
That's the catchphrase of West Ham's all-singing, all-dancing left-back Patrice Evra, and one look at his social media accounts will make you believe what he professes.
A relative newbie to Twitter, Pat has already shared a number of amusing posts and videos to his account (the one where he attempts to eat jellied eels is fantastic) and if his Instagram account is anything to go by, followers of his Twitter could be in for a few funnys in the near future.

Jesse Lingard - @JesseLingard
Jesse Lingard might be the Premier League's most improved player this season, but his Twitter game has also come on leaps and bounds too.
The dab king - famous for his elaborate handshakes with team-mate Paul Pogba - appears to enjoy tweeting just as much as he does playing football.
Highlights include dancing around with Soccer AM's Tubes and posing as the self-proclaimed 'New King Of Wakanda' - in homage to Marvel's Black Panther film.
