The first incarnation of the Sex Pistols included singer Johnny Rotten (John Lydon), lead guitarist Steve Jones, drummer Paul Cook and bassist Glen Matlock.

The Sex Pistols were a punk rock band formed in London in 1975, and allegedly started the punk movement in the United Kingdom. The band’s career lasted a short two and a half years and their single studio album, "Never Mind the Bullocks" landed them unbelievably in the Rock Hall of Fame. The Pistols are most remembered for Sid Vicious and Johnny Rotten. Vicious was a non talented, drug addicted, pathetic human being that couldn’t play bass, couldn’t sing, and murdered his girlfriend. Vocalist Johnny Rotten was just that a "rotten" singer." For some unknown reason, legions of fans of the Sex Pistols have glorified and deified this pathetic band. The question is why?

The band got its name from the title of Aldous Huxley's book The Doors of Perception, and featured Jim Morrison, Ray Manzarek, Robby Krieger, and John Densmore.

An anonymous quote reads: "Jim Morrison was a drunk stripper who was somehow romanticized into the greatest rock poet of a generation." He was a great frontman for his band The Doors. Jim had more swagger than Jagger and David Lee Roth combined. Credit should be given to Keyboardist Ray Manzarek, guitarist Robby Krieger, and drummer John Densmore, they were outstanding musicians. However to have movies made, and book after book written about Morrison's lyrical genius is just ridiculous. The Doors made some great music, but Jim wasn’t even close to being the best lyricist of his generation. Has anyone heard of Bob Dylan?

The founding members were Jerry Garcia (guitar, vocals), Bob Weir (guitar, vocals), Ron "Pigpen" McKernan (keyboards, harmonica, vocals), Phil Lesh (bass, vocals), and Bill Kreutzmann (drums).

Do the Grateful Dead make the list because they're overrated, or because they are boring? That is an interesting question. At best, the Dead were a rock/country/jazz/ fusion band that could rock as hard as they could play. At their worst they were just rambling noise. Jerry Garcia was an unbelievable guitar player but his solo stuff was far better than anything the Dead put out. The Dead were successful because they created an anti-establishment counterculture that kids could join for a few weeks, take drugs, party, and escape from reality on their Summer Break.

Nirvana was formed by singer and guitarist Kurt Cobain and bassist Krist Novoselic in 1987. Nirvana went through a succession of drummers, the longest-lasting being Dave Grohl, who joined the band in 1990.

If MTV never played the “Smells Like Teen Spirit” video, would you still know who Nirvana is? The late Kurt Cobain was an amazing musician, and deserves a lot of the credit. For better or worse he did change the face of modern rock. Dave Grohl has continued in the spotlight and appears to be everywhere these days with his band the Foo Fighters. However, the never-ending critic worship of the band has got to stop. Nirvana put out a few good albums that may stand the test of time, but would they still be revered if Cobain were still alive? They were good but not great.

For much of the group's career, the band has been a trio with vocalist/guitarist Billie Joe Armstrong, bassist Mike Dirnt. and drummer Tré Cool, who replaced former drummer John Kiffmeyer in 1990.

What about Green Day? There probably is a place for their very catchy pop-punk tunes, and that place was a college dorm circa 1994, or at a music festival. What they are not, is the voice of a generation. Green Day has been accused of selling out their punk rock roots and turning to mindless pop. Armstrong responds,"Sometimes I think we've become totally redundant because we're this big band now; we've made a lot of money – we're not punk rock any more. But then I think about it and just say, 'You can take us out of a punk rock environment, but you can't take the punk rock out of us." What do you think?

The Band was formed in 1996 by lead vocalist/pianist Chris Martin and lead guitarist Jonny Buckland at University College London. Later Guy Berryman joined the group as a bassist and they added Will Champion as drummer.

This tee-shirt says it all: "The British people would like to apologize to the rest of the world for Coldplay." In Britain there is a stomach-wrenching hatred reserved for Coldplay among music fans. They have been called "U2 Lite" but we all know that "lite" is never as good as the original. Chris Martin - You Are Not Bono.

Before the current group was established, the original four members, Adam Levine (lead vocals, lead guitar), Jesse Carmichael (rhythm guitar, backing vocals) Mickey Madden (bass guitar) and Ryan Dusick (drums), formed a band known as Kara's Flowers.

Maroon 5 is an insanely popular band from Los Angeles that started in 1994. Over the years they have become less of band. Now it is just the Adam Levine Show and the rest of the band have very little input on their sound. Any credibility he had was lost when Levine started endorsing acne products and appearing on The Voice. Adam - You Are Not A God!!!

The band was formed in New York City in January 1973 by Paul Stanley, Gene Simmons, Peter Criss and Ace Frehley.

While Kiss puts on a great show, their music is technically childlike. Back in the 70's these dudes were entertaining to the adolescent high school crowd, but they are in their 60's. (Think grandpa in a Halloween costume with platform shoes.) Gene Simmons pretty much invented rock merchandising and is a master of promotion. He is the reason KISS continues to show up everywhere. Thanks Gene!

Originating at the University of Vermont in 1983, the band included Trey Anastasio (guitars, lead vocals), Mike Gordon (bass, vocals), Jon Fishman (drums, percussion, vacuum, vocals), and Page McConnell (keyboards, vocals).

Quick name a song by Phish! We couldn't do it either. They are are talented bunch of musicians with an irreverent sense of humor and phenomenal improvisational skills. Phish has a legion of devoted fans that unite together much like The Grateful Dead. There are many reasons why they are overrated, but the most important is that Phish just makes mediocre music.

10

The band is composed of guitarist and lead vocalist Chad Kroeger, guitarist, keyboardist and backing vocalist Ryan Peake, bassist Mike Kroeger, and drummer Daniel Adair.

Nickelback began as a tame imitation of grunge and ended up selling a whopping 8 million copies in two years. They are one of the most commercially successful Canadian Bands ranking as their eleventh best-selling music act, and the second best-selling foreign act in the U.S. of the 2000's. Critics call their music "gratingly compromised and soul-sucking pop." How did a band so universally hated and despised gain so much favor? It is one of the world’s greatest mysteries.
