The Air Balloon

The Tudor-style pub building on the corner of Flying Bull Lane in Mile End is one of the most distinctive in Portsmouth. It shut 12 years ago and was converted into accommodation.

2

The Beehive

A popular pub in Paulsgrove for around 50 years but failed to survive the economic pinch and in 2005 closed before demolition and a homes development.

3

The Contented Pig

The pub stood on a prime spot opposite St Mary's Church and over the years was known variously as the Shipwright’s Arms, the Museum Gardens, the Frog & Frigate and the Landmark before settling for porcine bliss. It stood empty for some years after closing in 2007 before being demolished for a housing development

4

The Railway

Originally The Rocket, it took its name from the nearby railway in Cosham. The pub was a hotbed for darts and was referenced in commentary by the legendary Sid Waddell. It served its last pint six years ago before being demolished. A housing complex now occupies the site.

5

The White House

The distinctively-shaped pub stood in a prominent position next to Milton Park for many years and was popular with Pompey fans heading to or from nearby Fratton Park. It closed in 2011 and was knocked down to make way for houses.
