As well as the famous naval city, England has another Portsmouth - a village in West Yorkshire near to the towns of Burnley and Todmorden.

2

Portsmouth was historically part of Lancashire but boundary changes have put it a few hundred yards into West Yorkshire.

3

The village railway station, named Portsmouth (Lancs), was opened in 1849 by the Manchester and Leeds Railway but closed in 1958. Few traces of the station remain, although the line remains in use for passenger trains between Burnley and Hebden Bridge or Todmorden

4

The village's population is counted along with that of neighbouring Cornholme and the larger town of Todmorden. Together the three communities have just over 15,000 inhabitants

5

Unlike its Hampshire namesake, Portsmouth has only one pub - the Roebuck Inn. Internet reviewer John Waring rated it thus: 'A great place for a bar meal very good food, cooked specially for each customer. Prices sensible.'
