iPhone Is Not Starting? Here’s How to Fix It

You woke up in the morning looking for your iPhone to check your news feed, respond to emails and make some important phone calls. You pressed the power button, but the screen didn’t turn on. You tried touching the fingerprint sensor, but again no response. Your heart skipped a beat.
If you have been through a similar or the same situation, then we can completely understand how frightening it is. After all, an iPhone is supposed to work without fail. Unfortunately, no technology is flawless. Fear not! If you haven’t tried everything just yet, here are some simple fixes that can help revive your iPhone.
1) Plug It in and Let It Charge
Yes, we understand that you’re 100% sure your iPhone is charged up, but there is no harm in cross-checking it. Maybe something was wrong with your battery that caused it to drain faster than it usually does. Try plugging in your iPhone and charge it for at least 15 minutes and then attempt to turn it on. If a dead battery was the reason behind the black screen, then a few minutes of charge will fix this issue. If the iPhone is not charging, then consider using a different iPhone charger, USB cable or power adapter.
2) Try a Force Restart
Switching a device off and on again is one of the most tried and tested ways of fixing a gadget. If charging your iPhone doesn’t work, then trying a force restart is the next option to turn on your device. Unlike Android devices on which you can perform force restart by removing their batteries, iPhones don’t have a removable battery and hence you need to press a combination of buttons to perform a hard reset. That said, the method of restarting or combination of buttons depends on the model of your iPhone.
Here’s how to restart different versions of iPhone.
· iPhone 6S and earlier models: Power button + Home button
· iPhone 7 and 7 Plus: Power button + Volume Down button
· iPhone 8, 8+ and X: Volume Up button, then Volume Down button and lastly, Power button
Press and hold the combination buttons until the Apple logo appears on the screen. This will reboot your device and can switch it on normally.
3) Restore the Operating System
If your iPhone switches on after a force restart but instantly switches off or an error code appears on the screen, then you need to restore your operating system. A frozen iOS or corrupt firmware can be fixed if the screen shows a picture of a USB cable and an iTunes logo. To get your device working, follow these steps.
· Connect your iPhone to iTunes on a PC or Mac
· Click on the ‘Device’ tab at the top left
· Click on ‘Backup’ to back up all your data and wait until it is finished
· Click on ‘Restore’
The process of restoring your operating system requires download of the latest iOS software from Apple to turn it on without errors. However, the restore process will delete all data from your iPhone that’s why creating a backup before restoring is advisable.
We hope that the solutions suggested by our experts will help you fix your iPhone. But, if nothing worked, then probably something is wrong with the device’s hardware. After all, no technology is perfect. In that case, take your iPhone to the nearest Apple store or contact Apple Support.
