We tend to think of Europe as being centrally located and Maine as being very far north, but look....
It is clearly south of all three cities. It seems wrong, but it's right.
Here's another one. Which city is further west? Reno, Nevada or Los Angeles, California?
Nevada is east of California. Any map will tell you that. This should be easy.
But look.
Reno sits in the crook of California's elbow so that it falls just west of LA.
This last one is the freakiest fact of all three, so let's give you a little a test to see how many of you know it.

It's clearly our westernmost state and our northernmost state, but how can it be our easternmost state? Here, look at it on the globe.

See that? See how the Aleutian Islands creep out into the Eastern Hemisphere? That little creep gives Alaska the distinction of being the US's northernmost, westernmost and easternmost state.
