Women life in the 50's

During the 50's women began to rely on themselves. In the 40s, while men were at war they had managed to work. this met women got the began to wear pants and suits. However in the 50s women wore skirts and dresses. The skirts began to go up. The skirts at the bottom became more poofy and the top tight. Pencil skirts also started to come out and a women whole figure would be outlined.

After the war when men started to come back, women took a step backwards. They began to go back to they way it was before. Women became housewives again. They stayed home while men went to work. They cooked and cleaned. it was like traditional gender roles again.

women stayed home most of the day cooking and cleaning. If women wanted to they could turn on the radio and listen to music. The artist playing back then were Elvis Presley, Frank Sinatra, Doris Day,,ect. On TV there wasn't a lot on but that was also a pastime.

Back then women jobs weren't easy to find. There was still a lot of gender role. The jobs available for women were mostly positions as secretaries or cashiers. The jobs given to women weren't hard jobs that needed tools it was easy to do things.

women began to gain wait more in the 50's. The population in general was gaining wait. At this time women thought it was better to look thick and not skinny like a pencil. there were ways women sometimes would gain weight on purpose.

women began to put more makeup on. The brand new makeup brands began to come out. women would have very thin eye browns with white skin and a lot of blush with normally a red lip. that was the style back then.

women were now becoming known in the 50's. women began to sing and act. women we now part of TV and radios. Like Marilyn Monroe.
