Mr Flamboyant Review
Mr Flamboyant Review

Mr. Flamboyant is the brainchild of one of the Dirty South’s embedded Hip Hop/ Rap artists, Mr. Phalando Lawson, a mainstay in Atlanta Hip Hop Community. Lawson’s moniker Mr. Flamboyant is an apt stage name for this talented artist. The Mister is using his talents as an artist, producer and record label to bring the Sound of Fulton County to the attention of Indie Hip Hop fans. We all know Hotl’anta has got one of the most popping indie rap scenes in America today. This release confirms that for all who may not know.
This is one more tributary of music adding to that legend. The slow grind call and response beats and vocals of these tracks reflect that North of Atlanta attitude. Calling his collaboration between DJ Taz and Kilo Ali as Fulton County, it’s the secret sauce of keeping this music as the sound of the neighborhood. The song “Fulton County” itself, is like going along for a drive by on Saturday night, hitting the club and then searching for some ladies and Q afterwards.
The sexy voice of Ebony Camille punctuates the couplets of street truths and observations of the artists, who clearly know what time it is, in their own backyards. The title of the song “I’m So Fulton County” is almost redundant by the time you let this release wash over you a few times. They could not be more Fulton County if they tried. All the songs seem to reflect the street lives and ends of the hustler’s out there trying to make their marks and to get paid.
They also make great use of the time-honored Parliament Funkadelic, type use of messages and sound collages to drive home their art. One of the strongest tracks on this project is “Inside Out”. From the video game music runs on the keyboards, to the collage of vocals resting on those solid heart-beatz [sic] the music really takes this track to a higher level. I also liked the R&B elements in “Simpson Road”. Curb service, indeed, is going to be in Mr Flamboyant’s future. As long as he and his partners keep on cranking out Hip Hop reflections like these.
