Hope Solo's Contract With The US Women's National Team Has Just Been Terminated

Hope Solo, whilst clearly the Goal Keeper of a generation, is no stranger to scandal

After the US National Soccer Team was defeated by Sweden in Rio, Solo made some controversial comments that have upset Soccer authorities

Solo didn't mince words when asked about the game; she said t “I think we played a bunch of cowards” and “the best team did not win.” The sides drew 1-1 and the US lost on penalties.

Solo will be suspended for six months, and her national contract has been terminated which means she may loose out on money. Solo will only miss two games in 2016 and will be eligible to return in 2017. She will be able to play for her regular club during the suspension.

The Player's Union is seeking for the decision to be overturned, citing a violation of first amendment rights, but Solo is taking the punishment gracefully. Said Solo; "“I think it’s best for me to take a break, decompress from the stress of the last several months, and come back mentally and physically ready to positively contribute to the team.”
