1. Buckle up.

Get in the drivers seat and buckle up. Do NOT drive without wearing a seat belt.

2. Insert the car key into the ignition.

Insert the car key into the ignition and turn the key away from you. If you have a Press to Start button, press your foot on the break and press START.

3. If the car has trouble starting, press your foot against the break pedal.

Press your foot against the break pedal as you're turning the key.

4. If the key does NOT move past the first or second notch.

If the key does not turn all the way and the steering wheel is unable to move, the car has a steering lock engaged. A steering lock is just a safety precaution, if this is the case just lightly shake the steering wheel to allow the key to turn.

5. If you're starting a car with a manual transmission, put the gear stick in neutral.

So start with the gear stick in the middle, move to "1" as you're pressing the clutch pedal or the pedal on the far left next to the break pedal. Your car should be able to move from here.

6. Look into your mirrors before moving.

Make sure to look into all three mirrors before moving your car. This to ensure safety for yourself and other pedestrians or cars on the road.
