African grey parrots (like Alastair and Aggie) are extremely intelligent. They have impressive verbal and emotional capabilities and can learn lots of human words and use them in context. They can live for a very long time, and they're not low-maintenance pets; they need lots of attention (as they can be emotionally needy) and lots of exercise...but they also have a whole lot to give!
