Western

Western

You have a Western accent - and all of this time you probably thought you didn't have an accent at all! The Western dialect of American English is a single regional dialect that unites the entire western half of the United States, including California, Nevada, Utah, Colorado, and Wyoming, Washington, Oregon, Idaho, and Montana! The west was the last area in the United States to be settled during the westward expansion of English-speaking people and it's full of linguistic patterns from other regions. Your accent is general enough that no one knows exactly where you're from. Your accent is perfect for public speaking, news broadcasting, acting, advertisements, etc.!

Southern

Southern

You have a southern accent! You're shocked that people think "pin" and "pen" are pronounced differently, and you find it bizarre that people actually call coke "pop"! And of course, your day isn't complete without saying "ya'll"! The Southern dialects make up the largest accent group in the United States! You might be made fun of if you ever head up north, but pay no attention and take pride in your warm, charming accent!

North Eastern

North Eastern

You have a North Eastern accent! The Northeast is full of different accents, but they're grouped together as a regional accent group. You would never say "Ya'll" or "pop"! People "out west" and "down south" sound absolutely bizarre to you. You know what a Pill bug is, and if you don't you probably call it a "Potato bug". You've spent at least one Saturday at a "Tag Sale". Your accent may sound weird to some, but it's universally respected!

North Central

North Central

You have the classic North Central or Upper Midwest accent! You drink pop, frequently end sentences with "don't ya know", and you would never say "ya'll"! You say Mary, marry, merry all the same but you have no clue why someone would say "pen" and "pin" the same! Interestingly, this accent is the product of Scandinavian immigrants who settled in the northern Midwest. Your accent is unique. You just can't let anyone give you a hard time for it.... don't ya know?!

Midland

Midland

You have the Midland accent! Sometimes just called "Midwestern" but distinct from your friends up north who have the "North Central" or "Upper Midwest" accent. You drink pop and love car-ml covered apples. Your home State is probably full of beautiful corn fields. Your accent isn't extremely distinctive and can easily be confused with a Western accent. However, you have no idea why people from "back East" sound so funny!

New England

New England

You have a New England accent! You have yard sales and you know what a "Pill bug" is! "Mary," "merry," and "marry" might all sound differently to you, or you may just say "merry" differently than the other two. Interestingly, the New England accent is traditionally marked by its non-rhoticity (dropping r's) in words like car, card, fear, etc. But this feature is disappearing! Your accent is very unique! While you're enjoying the beautiful Fall colors, take pride in your awesome accent!

Southwestern

Southwestern

You have a Southwestern accent! You're not quite southern and you're not quite western! You may say "ya'll" and "pop", but you'd never say car-a-mel and Mary, marry, and merry all sound the same to you. You may have a bit of that "western drawl" but your accent isn't as distinctive as the Southern accent. Your accent would be perfect for a Western movie!

Appalachian

Appalachian

You have an Appalachian accent! This dialect is spoken primarily in the Central and Southern Appalachian Mountain region of the Eastern United States, Very unique! You say "you all" or the infamous "Yinz/You'uns" and "carra-mel". Interestingly, you probably rhyme crayon with "dawn". You've probably said "a boy and his daddy was a-huntin" at least once in your life. A thick Appalachian accent can be very difficult for people to understand, but don't worry: your accent is a fascinating dialect!
