Could You Survive Being Shipwrecked?

Let's set the scene. What was originally a pleasant sailing trip across the Pacific has since gone to the dogs. Following a catastrophic storm, your boat took a battering and you were flung into the ocean and carried off on the great swells.

You awake alone on a seemingly uninhabited desolate island. The wreckage of your ship lies strewn around the beach. There is no one else about and the sea is just a vast unbroken line of blue waves.

After coming to terms with being shipwrecked, what do you do?

You're resigned to the fact no one will be coming any time soon. What do you look for on the island first?

Morning comes and you resolve to explore a little of the island without straying too far from the beach. You stumble across some unfamiliar berries. What course of action do you take?

After exploring the coast, you return to find your camp has been disturbed. Your meagre supplies have been spoilt and the fire has died down. There are indistinguishable tracks leading into the forest. What do you do next?

Using fishing line and cargo netting, you manage to erect a rudimentary trap in an attempt to ensnare some dinner. To your surprise, you find you've caught a turkey. How do you proceed?

It's been a fortnight since you were marooned on the island. You've got a decent little set up and your makeshift larder is stocked. You've essentially got a day off. What do you spend your time doing?

You've become a dab hand at fishing, having constructed a spear and fashioning a net from washed-up debris. However, while swimming the shallows you encounter a shark. What do you do?

One morning, one of the island's native wild pigs strays close to your camp. Do you seize the opportunity?

Upon exploring deeper into the forest, you discover a serene pond. Wondering whether you can use it for drinking and bathing, you catch sight of your reflection in the water - it's the first time you've seen yourself in over a month. How do you react?

As you're sitting on the beach one morning, you suddenly spy a group of men rowing furiously past your island. What do you do?

One of the men leaps from the boat and swims towards you while the others wait beyond the reef. As he comes ashore, you notice he's dressed in tribal gear and appears unarmed. How do you respond?

Since the disappearance of the tribesmen, you've carefully counted the passing of days and you realise it's been six months since you were stranded. How do you mark this occasion?

Miraculously, a boat appears on the horizon and is coming straight for you. The crew are waving at you and yelling. How do you react?

You may as well gone down with your ship, quite frankly.

Well, isn't this a sad state of affairs? It looks like you just weren't cut out for island life in any way, shape or form. The gnawing hunger, overwhelming loneliness and exposure to the harsh elements probably contributed to your untimely demise.

You know what? You've just about made it.

You know what? You've just about made it.

By the skin of your teeth, you've made it. Yes, you're probably three stone lighter and your teeth are in urgent need of dental care, but the important thing is you're alive!

Move aside Robinson Crusoe!

Are you sure you even want to leave the island? You've mastered its tribulations and overcome every obstacle in your path. When help arrives, they'll find a supreme example of humankind's ability to survive even the harshest conditions. You are legend.
