Quarantine is the perfect time to embrace your natural hair. Since no one is going to work or happy hour, there's no reason to get all dolled up. Meaning: HANDS OFF THE FLAT IRON. Styling tools can be addictive, but cause a lot of hair damage in addition to scorching hot showers and washing your hair too much. So unless you're going on a date at the supermarket, you should really give your hair a break from heat tools and intense coloring. Revitalize broken and dry hair while social distancing so you can look your best when we come out of lockdown. Don't know what healing products your hair needs though? Is your hair oily? Dry? Frizzy? If you don't know your exact hair type, we're here to help. Answer these questions and we'll tell you which hair type you really have!

Damaged

Damaged

Admit it, your flat iron is your best friend. However, this styling tool can be your worst enemy when overusing it and overheating it. Ironing, curling, and blow drying your hair on high heat can cause serious damage to your delicate locks. And those hot showers you love to take? Yup, that's also causing hair damage. The outer cuticle cracks, creating frizzy, dry and broken hair. Also, frequently dying your hair (especially bleach blonde) breaks the strands too.

So how do you repair the damage? First, try parting ways with your hot tools. Now is a great time to embrace your natural curls or waves. Let your hair heal! If you do use your irons or blow dryer, put the temperature on a low setting and style the hair in small sections. Use warm-cool water in the shower to give your hair more of a shine. For those little flyaways (aka broken hair at the top of your head), tame them with a nourishing argan oil. And don't forget to apply a conditioning reparative mask 1-2 a week.

Oily

Oily

Are you constantly touching your face and hair? That's probably why it feels so greasy, especially in the summer heat. Touching your hair with the oils from your fingers puts more oil on the strands, creating that slick look. Over-washing and conditioning can also be the cause of your oily hair. Washing your hair every day with such heavy products strips your hair and scalp of its natural oils.

To decrease oil buildup, try washing your hair 2-3 times a week instead of everyday. If your hair gets greasy from not cleansing it, wash it regularly but add a clarifying shampoo or scalp treatment to your shower routine. This one from Amazon will help in achieving healthy, shiny, and most importantly, clean hair.

Dry

Dry

You have dry hair! You could also have some damage from bad hair habits, resulting in dryness. Wondering why your hair feels crunchy? Think about your daily hair routine and habits. Are you using boiling hot water when shampooing? Are you blow drying it on the hottest setting? Are you washing it too much? Are you bleaching it every other month? If you answered "yes" to most of these (like all of us probably did), this is why you have dry hair.

High heat in the shower and when styling with irons dries and fries the hair. If you have fine hair, putting the flat iron on a low setting (200 degrees) should get the job done. Think of it like a sweet potato going in the oven at 425 - you wouldn't cook your hair the same way. Try washing your hair less; too much shampoo strips the hair of natural oils making it dry and lack luster. Hydrate your hair with a nourishing mask to healthy, shiny looking hair.

Healthy

Healthy

Easy, breezy, beautiful... hair! You know how to take care of your precious strands. Are you always getting compliments on how healthy, soft, and shiny your hair looks? It's probably because you know all the rules of hair care. You limit the use of hot tools and high heat blow drying because it can fry the hair. You take cooler showers, knowing how hot water can quickly dry out your strands. Avoiding coloring your hair with harsh chemicals also keeps your hair so healthy, as well as not washing it too much.

Keeping a healthy nutritious diet full of vitamins and protein gives your hair a natural glow; it's all about balance, so have your green smoothie AND those potato chips you love. To maintain healthy hair goals, get frequent trims at the salon to cut off dead ends, use a brush made for detangling wet hair, and treat yourself to a luxe silk pillow case (it helps reduce hair breakage and feels amazing on your skin).
