40 Fifers 2016: 30-21

It’s been a busy year of breaking news, campaigns, and major issues but behind the headlines, we also met some remarkable people who all made their mark on 2016.

The comedian from Wormit won the Edinburgh Festival Fringe’s lastminute.com award – formerly the Perrier Award – with his brutally honest show, Monkey See, Monkey Do, based on his own experience of abuse.

29. Jonny Adam

Made sporting history driving for Aston Martin and winning the first ever back to back British GT championships.

28. Lewis Stevenson

Kirkcaldy-raised Hibernian defender helped the club lift their first Scottish Cup in 114 years. In doing so, he became the first Hibs player to have won both domestic cups at the club.

27. Mary Law MBE

Indomitable octogenarian has led Cupar to horticultural glory for many years as chairman of Cupar in Bloom.

26. Jordan Young

The Kingskettle lad, a former pupil of Bell Baxter High School in Cupar, has become one of Scotland’s biggest stars thanks to his role as Alex in River City.

25. Billy Boyter

The chef-proprietor of the Michelin-star family-owned Anstruther restaurant The Cellar ended 2016 on another high, with the restaurant named as one of Forbes magazine’s 10 Coolest Places to Eat in 2017.

24. ‘Motorhead Davey’

One of the characters of the TV series ‘The Council’, Davey’s humour and personality in the face of some tough health issues struck a chord with viewers.

23. Brynja Duthie

The Cupar teenager continued her ongoing fundraising activities to support former Madras maths teacher Donald ‘Mr G’ Grewar and fund research into Motor Neurone Disease.

22. Pauline Buchan

For the sixth year running Pauline oversaw the Cottage Centre’s annual festive appeal, which provides vulnerable families with food, clothing and toys.

21. Alan Morrison

The man who curated Kirkcaldy Film Festival and brought a little bit of Cannes to Kirkcaldy. The 2016 event was his last one before moving into a new role with Creative Scotland.
