How I Became a Successful Plumber

Right after my graduation, it was time to choose a career to earn a livelihood. I completed my graduation with maths as a major subject. I preferred taking maths because I was good with numbers since the beginning and as the famous saying goes “when you are expert in something, use it to earn money”. After making an analysis of all the careers options, being a professor was the most adequate one. So, I began my career as a teacher in college. I was satisfied with my work as they were paying me enough money to enjoy the life’s necessities. Along with salary, they gave me a suitable place in the hostel to live and the billing expenditures were on the college accounts.

College was not big so the strength of the students was reasonable. I only had to take 4 lectures per day and rest of the day was free. I spent most of my leisure time in the library. Sometimes, I offer extra classes for my students if they find any difficulty. The life was good until I realized summer breaks are coming and I would not have anything to do. I started searching something to make my break useful.
I planned to join a short course to enhance my learning or for fun. Upon research, I came to know that there are institutes that offer professional training programs for people who are good with tools. My curiosity aroused and I enrolled myself in the technical training program. This took my interest as I was good with numbers and already knew some basic tools required for plumbing. When I enrolled myself in plumbing training program, I realized it was not easy to learn. Before the final admission, they took a test based on general calculation to check how accurate one can be with measurements in practical life. Plumbing needs to be done with precise measurements as it is a one-time investment and hiring a non-professional can cause the troubles.

Normally the plumbing course last for 3 years and consist of 144 credit hours. If you are slow with numbers, you might end up completing the course in more than 3 years. As I was good with numbers and tools it took me 3 years to get the license for technical training. Though the market prefers professionals with 4-5 years of training program but I managed to be one of the qualified professional plumbers in East London with 3 years completion time. After completing my course, it was time to look for a reliable company for the job. Luckily, I found one company and they offered me a good deal on the basis of my technical skills. As I already had other professional commitments, I refused to work as a full-time technician for them. I worked with them for a year and learned how beneficial the plumbing profession is. Most of the plumbing tasks take only a few minutes if you are expert and the wage rate was also good. However, plumbing services for new construction last for days or months depending on the project.

After working with a reputable company, I built good relations with customers and began to serve them privately. To be honest, serving as an individual plumber is more beneficial as you can work on flexible timing. Along with the service, you can continue other jobs too like I did. People never stop calling professional plumbers especially with such freezing weather of East London. No doubt plumbing is a great profession if you get proper training and license through the reliable institute as I did.
