In an essay titled "We Believe in Human Kindness" on his and wife Joanna Gaines' Magnolia blog, the former "Fixer Upper" star says he's been "thinking a lot about kindness lately."
"It’s been a tough couple of weeks for a lot of people in our country, and I can’t help but wonder, how did we get here?" he wrote.Help on essay "I believe that we are all made in likeness, and because of that, our hearts are naturally drawn toward one another. But the thing about kindness is, it’s a choice. It’s something that we should give freely with the hopeful expectation that it might one day be given freely to us."
He added that he also believe kindness is "contagious" and how we treat others has an effect on how others will in turn treat us.
In order to help kick start the kindness movement, Gaines says he's challenging his team at Magnolia and anyone reading to use the hashtag #kindheartedness on social media.
"Kindness is contagious, but the spark has to start somewhere. Why don’t we start here? And why don’t we start now?" he added. "I believe in the resilience of humankind and I can’t help but wonder what goodness we might be able to offer this world if we joined our voices together."
