Rockets news of James Harden wanting his step-back 3-pointer to ‘last forever’

Rockets news: James Harden has cemented his legacy as one of the greatest NBA players of all-time. He’s been one of the best and most unstoppable offensive forces in league history, and a huge part of his success in that department can be credited to his signature shot, the step-back 3-pointer.

It is no secret that Harden can drive to the basket and either score on high percentage shots, but his step-back jumper has made him an even tougher matchup for opposing teams. For the former MVP, it has become a part of who he is as a player and he wants that shot to be remembered forever, per his interview with ESPN’s Tim McMahon.

“…you know how Mike [Jordan] has his fadeaway and Dirk [Nowitzki] has his one-leg and [Kareem Abdul-Jabbar] had the sky hook, I want my step-back to be one of those moves that last forever. So when I travel around the world and I see little kids that [say], ‘Hey James, I got a step-back!’ — I love to see that.”

The NBA has seen its most iconic superstars revolutionize basketball with their signature shots. And with the game becoming more focused on 3-pointers, Harden is one of the individuals who really thrived in it. And while the step-back jumper was already being used long before The Beard made it to the NBA, he’s the one who made it one of his trademarks. One could even argue that no one does it better than Harden.

And that’s always been a dream of his; to create something that he can be proud of, something that would separate him from the other greats. He wants his name to always be brought up whenever people are talking about the step-back 3.

“It’s me being a creator and me being an innovator and paving the way in basketball in my own way, doing it how I want to do it, and that’s what it’s all about. As a little kid playing in these parks, that’s what I imagined, that’s what I dreamed of. Now it’s coming to reality, so it’s pretty cool.”

Harden also plans to use the one-legged 3-pointer next season after a video of him hitting that shot in an informal scrimmage made waves on social media. However, at the end of the day, the step-back jumper will always be his go-to move.

And if can take the Rockets to a title, or even the Finals with that shot, then there is no doubt that it will be forever tagged along with his name.
