Wow What a Spikey Ball You Have Mr Darcy

Remember that quote form the film?

No?

The reason for that is it wasn’t in there!

I had to search for ages before I came across this great bt of advice which really saved me. No need for Mr Darcy or any white knight. Just a hard, spikey massage ball.

So where did I come across this wicked but effective information? It was this health blog here, and then I checked out their team and used their names and profiles to see what each of them have been blogging and advising people about.
They say that these horrid little spikey massage balls are great tools for self-massage on muscle related conditions. They are also referred to as Pilates trigger point release spikey balls. And apparently, they work on the “myofascial” system.
The blog I read was really in depth and explained that the “myofasica”, is a complex continuum of muscle and connective tissue (fascia) that forms a web like clingfilm or cellophane all over our muscles.

Spikey Ball Work V’s Massage Work

There are many lots of different types of massage technique. Some people use massage as well as chiropractic to help – in fact I was quite taken with one of the case studies (testimonials) on their website that talked about the combination of self-help, massage and chiropractic treatment for aches and pain.
What struck me about these guys was the amount of self-help advice they advocated. I even found this site by one of the other chiropractors. They say that there are things you can do to ease stiffness and muscle tension.

Spikey Ball Time

I love it now.

I use my lovely spikey massage ball to massage my muscles and my friends muscles and fascia through their skin. We don’t do it to each other. You need to do this alone to yourself.

The spikey massage ballis good at improving your blood flow – at least that’s what I read. It also helps by reducing muscle tension and help reduce injury.

Acid Time

Well I am talking about Hyaluronic Acid – or I think that’s how it’s spelt.
All fascial layers rely this hyaluronic acid to help them slide over each other.
Apparently when tissues get too dehydrated through not enough hyaluronic acid it makes adhesions in the myofascial layers.
So, if you can use massage or your own massage ball to loosen or free off these terrible adhesions and helping the tissues to move better with massage or self-massage using a spikey ball for example will release tension and improves flexibility.

Word of Warning

DON’T use the magic spikey ball if you’ve had an injury or trauma which has:
·       Broken the skin
·       Caused inflammation of a joint
·       Significant bruising

Or if you are prone to bruising or lack of feeling in an area as you might hurt yourself like one of my (former) friends did. They tried to combine the spikey ball with a vibration tool at the gym and it dug in hurting them. But at the time they did not realize as they were numb form the vibration tooling. I think it was a vibration plate you stand on. Anyway, I would have thought it obvious not to spikey ball yourself if you are numb. But not for her – she did and now blames me.

See the Expert – Or At Least Look for Free Advice
So, I try not to advise people myself after all I’m not a paid professional. But that’s why I say read up for advice on line.
Good luck with it all and keep supple. One day Mr Darcy might come to our rescue and you won’t even want him.
