Netflix released its first feature-length original film, Beasts of No Nation, in 2015. Since then, the streaming platform has released many new titles, from comedies to allegories, doing their best to revolutionize the way we watch movies (and TV).

Roma

Alfonso Cuarón's autobiographical portrait of kind-hearted maid Cleo caring for a Mexican family in the early 1970s.

Roma is a 2018 drama film written and directed by Alfonso Cuarón, who also produced, shot, and co-edited it. Set in 1970 and 1971, Roma, which is a semi-autobiographical take on Cuarón's upbringing in the Colonia Roma neighborhood of Mexico City, stars Yalitza Aparicio and Marina de Tavira and follows the life of a live-in housekeeper of a middle-class family.
The film had its world premiere at the 75th Venice International Film Festival, where it won the Golden Lion. It received universal acclaim, with particular praise given to Cuarón's screenplay, direction and cinematography, as well as Aparicio's and de Tavira's performances.

Okja

The story revolves around a CFO of a slaughterhouse and the newly appointed meat quality inspector who discover they can communicate with each other through their dreams, leading to an unlikely romance. It won the Golden Bear in the main competition section of the 67th Berlin International Film Festival. At Berlin it also won the FIPRESCI Prize and the Prize of the Ecumenical Jury. It was selected as the Hungarian entry for the Best Foreign Language Film and was nominated for the 90th Oscar.
