Season 1

Season 1

You're iconic and you introduce us to a world we could never forget, and to characters we'll grow to love forever. You romance us, and you take your time getting to know us. You don't always know what you're doing (see: Kirk being introduced as Mick), but you do it well anyway. Once you start to get your sea legs, season one, you're fantastic and we couldn't love you more. We never know what to root for--the adorable, sweet, charming Max or the clear chemistry with Luke?--but we know who we're here for. It's not just a show, we learn; it's a religion, it's a lifestyle. Season one, you can be infuriating at times. Like, how does Lorelai NOT see her and Luke together? Even Emily sees it! The distance between Lorelai and her parents sometimes seems dramatized, because we haven't had firsthand experience with this yet. And some of Lorelai and Rory's early fights are just annoying. But we can't help it, because we were drawn in anyway, and we're here to stay. You're a classic, season one. You're the beginning of something legendary.

Season 2

Season 2

You're season two, and you know what that means? So. Much. Is. Going. On! Season two brought us the introduction of Jess, and with him, all the tension and the inevitable Rory/Dean/Jess love triangle that we loved to hate. Season two broke our hearts a little, between Lorelai calling it off with Max (by not even showing up... we're still a little mad about that one) and the almost-relationship rekindled between Lorelai and Chris that turned into literally a seven seasons will-they-won't-they from hell. Speaking of, you're the best and worst of Paris, because what is up with her this season? You may literally not know who to trust. I guess that happens when half of your main duo is in high school, am I right? Season two is a favorite of many, and of course, brought us such classics as "Oy with the poodles already!" Season two, you're filled with twists and turns, and just when we think Emily and Lorelai's relationship is improving, you throw us curveballs and reminders that they are who they are. But you're great, because you give us Jess and Paris in the same room, and for that meeting of the minds, we'll never forget you.

Season 3

Season 3

You're moody and don't know what you want, or are afraid to go after it. You're about to leave a period of your life behind and you aren't sure exactly how to feel. Congrats, you're season three! That means you've got all the pain and suffering of will-they-won't-they with the Jess/Rory/Dean love triangle going on, and maybe, like Rory, you know what you want out of life but are afraid to go for it. You know you may not want Dean, even though he's the safe choice, and you may not want the safe college you've been planning to go to for years, either. There's nothing wrong with that! Life is all about taking risks and finding out what happens. Like season three, you're filled with laughs, heartbreak, and beautiful romance (can anyone say Dave Rygalski? swoon). You're emotional at times ("We're crying a lot, but not blubbering!"), but you also remind us what (and who) is important and keep us interested. Season three has all the anxiety of college applications--almost as if they're happening all over again--and all the drama of first and second love. You're the perfect package.

Season 4

Season 4

You're going through a bit of a transition phase in your life. Maybe it's a more obvious change, like going from high school to college, or maybe it's more subtle, like finally opening your own inn after years, but whatever the change, you're in flux right now. You're season four, and just like season four, that means a lot of character development and changes of scenery. You've got Naked Guy Marty instead of Madeline and Louise, and you've got Luke and Lorelai FINALLY getting it together. Because you're in transition, you don't always know what you want or what's best for you right now (see: Rory cheating with Dean, a married man, after letting him go for Jess), but that's okay. You're season four, which means you're figuring things out: what do you like? What do you not like? Who should you date? Where should you study? These are all questions you're wondering, and it may end in more than a few Lorelai-and-Rory level breakdowns ("I'm failing"), but that's fine, because you'll come out stronger. And maybe kiss someone you're meant to be with after years, with a naked Kirk running through the background. We'll see.

Season 5

Season 5

Romance! Self-discovery! Mystery! Intrigue! You're season five. You're all those buzzed, exciting feelings of Logan and Rory's pre-romance flirtation at the Life and Death Brigade event, and you're the emotional drama of Dean and Rory trying to make it work. You're also most of the beginning of Luke and Lorelai, and you bring us some of our favorite romantic scenes between the two. I mean, the guy kept the horoscope in his wallet for eight years. We're all in, too, especially after he brings Lorelai and snow back together again. Season five, you toy with our emotions, but you're honestly SO good. You know how to rip out our hearts, don't you, between reuniting Emily and Richard to Christopher messing everything up again to Rory getting the guts to tell Logan she likes him to Luke and Lorelai's tragic, but thankfully short-lived, breakup. You're the favorite season of many loyal Gilmore fans, and for good reason. You're a no-holds-barred kind of season. That scene where Lorelai sees Rory coming out of Logan's limo with all the drunk, rich guys laughing? Our hearts break every time.

Season 6

Season 6

You're a whirlwind--you're season six! You're a fighter; you're not willing to give up that easy. Mom won't let you drop out of Yale? Fine, you'll move in to the pool house and join the DAR! Rory won't understand why quitting Yale is stupid, and your parents betrayed you once again? That's okay, because you got Paul Anka! Season six is a mess of emotions--defiance, stubbornness, fighting spirit, and learning who you are in the face of a challenge. Sure, there's a lot to be desired in the second half, especially with Luke and Lorelai, but this season gives us Jess coming back to say he wrote a book. If you're season six, you're one hell of a mess, but in all the best ways. Plus, we can all agree that episode 13, "Friday Night's Alright for Fighting," gave us the most EPIC Friday Night Dinner scene of all time.

Season 7

Season 7

Don't take this the wrong way, but you don't know exactly who you are right now. You're still figuring it out--and that's okay! As most hardcore Gilmore fans know, season seven is when original creators Amy Sherman-Palladino and Dan Palladino left the show in the hands of other writers. Don't let that fool you; there are so many great things to love about season seven. Despite how lost it felt at first, it does a great job of fleshing out Lorelai's feelings for Christopher, and we finally get that full-on Chris vs. Luke fight that we'd been waiting for. Season seven also has so many perfect Paris moments. I mean, "I can scare the stupid out of you, but the lazy runs deep," is such a usable quote, right? Season seven was also the moment of truth: what would Rory do after graduating from Yale? Considering her going to an Ivy League was at least half the premise of the show, this was a burning question, and fans were right there with Rory through all the stress. Any college student re-watching season seven can attest to getting a little emotional watching Rory struggle with post-grad fears. So rock on, season seven, because you're an emotional rollercoaster that ended on a sweet note.
